Supposedly makes it impossible to remove from the PC and put it on another ... or something like that.
Also, exposes the holographic bands to make sure its genuine.JJ

Re: Waiting for your Z series laptop???
an update. my z61m order from 11/24 still has not shipped.
Got an email from Lenovo back from indicating that it will ship this week.
Crossing my fingers.
Is anybody else still waiting for a Z61 ordered in late November/Early December?

Re: Waiting for your Z series laptop???
No, I ordered on 11/26 and got mine on 12/27. If I were you, I'd call Lenovo and tell them you want to open a formal complaint due to the long delays and different ETA's you've been receiving. Tell them you want 10% off your laptop for your troubles. They will open a complaint and a customer relations manager gets assigned to your case usually within 1 day. The next day after opening my complaint I was contacted by the person who got assigned to my complaint. He emailed me, introduced himself and said that he was trying to get my laptop shipped quicker and that he was investigating my compensation request. I replied to his email, telling him that my experience with Lenovo had been very poor and that I had been given multiple shipping dates, etc. I said that I think 10% is a fair request as a gesture that they care about my business now and in the future and that it would keep me from canceling my order. I was polite in the email but let him know I have not been happy with the purchasing process.
This was on a Friday, and the following Tuesday (day after xmas), he emailed me telling saying that my order had shipped (and was upgraded to express shipping for free) and that he had processed a refund to my credit card for 10% of the purchase price, as the full invoice amount is charged at the time of shipping.
Can't hurt to try.

Re: Waiting for your Z series laptop???
I'm going to call tomorrow. It may be shipping tomorrow anyway, but I'm going to try for the credit as well. I'm not really needing it until school starts again in a few weeks, so until the last week or so I hadn't really been that upset about it.
I was looking at other options today. If they don't ship by Friday, I'm ditching Lenovo altogether and getting an HP or something else. It's a shame, because the Thinkpad is really what I wanted.

Re: Waiting for your Z series laptop???
At this point I've been waiting on a z61p since 11/7. That's not a typo - 5 days short of a two month wait, and a full 6 weeks delayed from what was the promised delivery date on the date I placed my order. BMW built me a car to my specifications, in Germany, and got it to me by boat in the amount of time I've now been waiting for this stupid block of circuits.
But for the fact that they're going to 1) match a much lower configured price that I was able to squeeze out of the student / alumni EPP page right after Christmas, 2) give me 10% off my original order price, and 3) express it to me whenever they do build it, I'd have cancelled the order long ago. Hell, if on December 1 when they told me it'd be ready by December 15 they'd actually given me the January date I have now, I'd have cancelled. The problem is they've never pushed the next deadline out by more than 15 days, meaning that any custom-made alternative has always been just about as far out as whatever new date they've been promising. Nice way to keep me dangling.
ALLEGEDLY it will be shipping either tomorrow or Friday, although for reasons nobody can explain the estimated ship date on their website for my order changed today from 1/3/07 (where it's been stuck for a month) to 12/26/06. They claim my unit hasn't actually shipped yet, though.
To help pass the time, I have a couple questions for the group:
1) Am I nuts for waiting this long?
2) Are any of you still waiting on units have order dates before 11/7?
3) Have any of you had the website jump to an estimated ship date that's a week in the past? How long after that did your unit ship?
At this point, if I ever get it, this lappy had better do everything it is supposed to, and also cook me dinner, clean my bathroom, and remember to send me flowers on my birthday.

Re: Waiting for your Z series laptop???
Encouraging news - I finally got through to a Lenovo sales representative who told me that the Z61m black shells have finally come in and they will be shipping this week. (the titanium ones have been in stock for a few weeks now, apparently).
I asked to file a formal complain, and he transferred me to second level, where a nice rep put me on hold for a few minutes, then came back and offered me a laptop carrying case. I told her I already had one and would prefer a discount on my order. She told me she would call me back later today(I asked for 10 percent off like some others on this board have gotten).
So, a more positive experience than I had been having.
