Default X60 Tablet Screen Replacement. (Multitouch)

I have two X60 Tablets, I belongs to me and the other to my wife, a while back ago, my 2.5 year old son (at the time) cracked the screen on my my wife's Dell 700, so I looked for a replacement, found an X60 on ebay for $65, no HD, no OS, so I bought two. I have plenty of HDs. So I refurblished them and they are up and running. About a week ago, she cracked the bottom part of the screen on her X60, so I just changed the hard drive and gave her mine. Apparrently, she did not close the lid and it open on the swivel and she stepped on it.

So I decided to sell the one with the cracked screen and be done with it, while looking for a good price, I found a X60 Multitouch screen, complete for $90. So that begs the question....

Can I install a multitouch screen on a model that did not orginally come with an a multitouch screen?? Any comments would be appreciated on how this would work or if it would not work. Thanks ahead of time.

If you're getting a complete LCD assembly, you should be good to go.

Just the screen itself won't be enough as far as I recall since the digitizer is different as well.

    Happy swapping.

Thanks for the input, yes, it is a whole screen LCD assembly. I would not bother with just a screen, to much to trouble to change it, as a matter of fact, I remove the LCD assembly and currently using it as work as a personal PC for music, beats me carrying my Slate 500 each day in my bag, not too heavy, but still have to undock and put it in it's case, ..... bah, bah, ... Thanks again.

Any other comments would be appreciated.

my only comment is that the X60T MT panel is resistive rather than capacitive and takes a fair amount of effort to use (along with being far from accurate).   it's nowhere near the quality what modern tablets/slates/phones use.   i have an MT X61T on my shelf and never use the touch feature.

unless you're absolutely pining for the touch feature and are willing to deal with a sub-par interface, go for it.   i wouldn't go out of my way for an X60T/X61T MT panel though.

You make a valid point, I was planning to replace it, to actually run windows 8, I know that the GUI is touch based on Windows 8 and I wanted to experience in that fashion. The only touchscreen PC I have is an HP 500 Slate, but I have heard the reviews on Windows 8 running that this Slate are not good. I am looking at an Acer Iconia Tab W500-BZ467 that a co-worker (student) is selling. Any thoughts. ??

despite the "multitouch" moniker, the X60T/X61T is single-finger touch.   it was called multitouch due to allowing both pen and (single) finger input.   since then the industry changed scope and allowed multiple fingers simultaneously as input.   while the MT X60T/X61T is usable in windows 8, the resistive panel makes it less smooth than ideal.   plus it's a smudge magnet thanks to the anti-reflective coating on the glass.

the other catch is that the X60T/X61T MT panel is only 1024x768 and windows 8 is optimized for 16:9 at a minimum of 1366x768.

in short, it's not the best choice of panel for win 8.

I decide to get it and I should expect it by the end of the week. I looked at some other Multitouch X series models and found only one in my price range, an X61, but the seller did not want to haggle on the price. So others, like X201, X220, and X230, way too expensive. So I settled for the screen replacement, I did come accross a standard (complete) X60 screen for $70, but I figure an extra $20 would not hurt to get a multitouch. I will keep the forum posted on the end result. I have read good reviews on Windows 8 when installed on X series, especially Mulitouch screens.

You can get an X200 tablet for pretty cheap, lowest I've seen is like 300...I'm actually looking for a multi-touch model to compliment my SXGA+ X61t

I checked the tracking on the X60 Screen, I should recieve it today, but as luck would have it, I took "Tsunade_Hume" advise and looked for a X200T, I was able to find a couple, that were about $300+/-, but none were "multitouch", but I found a X61 with "Multitouch" for $243. So I really will not be needing the X60 afterall, I figure I will install the screen and then turn around and sell it. I did find a X60 that I "thought" was "mulitouch, seller listed it as "complete touch screen". Just turned around and sold it for a $20 profit. I have to say that "multitouch" does sell for a higher price. I will keep the forum posted. It is also funny that Model/Serial does provide you with the specifications on whether it is "multitouch"
