Re: X230(t) Owner's Thread
Yes the shipping is from them to me. You pay right away (I paid via paypal) -once you've confirmed the order with them they will then place the order to lenovo -once they recieve it, you have an option to upgrade some parts -after that they send it to you.
Give them a call -they are very helpful!

Re: X230(t) Owner's Thread
I will probably buy my next Thinkpad from Lapstars. I had my eyes on that shop for a while. I also read some threads here at NBR, and people have mostly positive experiences with them (Summary: they tend to leave emails unanswered, but orders are fulfilled efficiently).
Before my decision I put together a Thinkpad configuration (for the X230 and X230T) on lenovo.com. I estimated shipping expenses to Finland, calculated VAT I would need to pay (because shipped from US) plus added all things I want to upgrade (ram, msata ssd, etc). I then compared this to the price I would get from Lapstars.
The end result was almost the same (in some cases event lower than the US price). Lapstars also allows me to select RAM upgrades, MSATA options, etc, and they do so with a very very reasonable price. And to get it from the US, it would take time and a lot of effort. Maybe a good coupon could push the US price so low, that this would be something I consider, but currently I am thinking about going with Lapstars.
So you could look at them and try to figure out which one is better.Last edited by lenardg; 13th June 2012 at 02:26 AM. Reason: cleanup

Re: X230(t) Owner's Thread
Does anyone know if the ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter II (v2) is compatible with the Series 3 Ultrabase? I have the second version of the adapter and was wondering if I need to update to the third version (ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III - v3)?
The T500 supposedly accepts both v2 and v3 of the adapter, and I used my v2 with the T500. But I did not really find any information if the v2 can be used with the ultrabase? Dimension wise they are pretty much the same, I don't really know what the difference is between v2 and v3?ThinkPad T430 i7-3520M/16Gb/256Gb SSD/optimus/win8 -- MacBook Pro 13" [2010] -- iPad mini

Re: X230(t) Owner's Thread
The x230 maintenance manual says:
I started a thread about this topic heredo not use the mSATA solid-state drive as a bootable device. The mSATA solid-state drive is used for the “cache” function only.

Re: X230(t) Owner's Thread
"If the computer you are servicing is shipped with an mSATA solid-state drive and a hard disk drive, the mSATA solid-state drive is used for the “cache” function and the Intel Rapid Start Technology. Users are not recommended to replace the mSATA solid-state drive by themselves. Otherwise, the “cache” function will not work and the Intel Rapid Start Technology cannot be used any more."
these: Newegg.com - Intel 311 Series Larsen Creek 20GB mSATA SATA II SLC Enterprise Solid State Disk SSDMAESC020G201
are used for cache, and maybe that's what lenovo means when they say not to use the mSATA SSD as a bootable device? i don't see any reason why a normal 40GB+ mSATA SSD wouldn't work.
also are there any options for a CTO X230 to add an mSATA SSD? they are referenced in the WWAN options part when you configure but that seems to be it.ThinkPad W500 - T9600 | FireGL V5700 | 8GB DDR3 | Hitachi Z7K320 320GB | 15.4" WUXGA | BD-RE | 7 Ultimate

Re: X230(t) Owner's Thread
Good afternoon everyone,
I just did a clean install of windows on my new t430s.... I've installed a bunch of drivers but there are two that I cannot figure out! They are:
Unknown device
PCI Serial Port
Any thoughts on what these could be?
Thank you in advance for your help gang! Have a wonderful day!

My New Year's Resolution: 1680 x 1050 | My computer doesn't need to hibernate - IT'S NOT A BEAR!
