I got a chance to see some of these new models, though I apologize did not get to use the new keyboard for enough time to really pass any judgment. I think the X1 is going to be pretty appealing, 1600 x 900 screen in a 14-inch form factor under 3lbs. Tasty.

The X1 Carbon looks interesting, especially if it's got a decent screen.

It's great to see that the feedback on last years X1 was incorporated into the X1 Carbon. Looks like a nice machine.

The keyboard smudges in the pic at http://blog.laptopmag.com/lenovo-thi...1carbon_front2 are a little disconcerting.

"The W530 will be a workstation style laptop, it will offer a Full HD IPS display..."

    Something to drool about.

I guess us ordinary users will have to put up with these changes.

Print screen button where the menu key should be (I guess remapping is an annoying possibility)
    No back/forward navigation buttons.
No grouping of the function buttons into fours.

I'm starting to feel like these products are mere ordinary computers put into thinkpad costumes.

I'm interested in knowing what discrete graphics they're putting in and the contrast ratios of the screens they're putting in.

The IPS screen option is interesting. Hopefully upcoming windows 8 can handle wide-gamut monitors such that ordinary graphics don't appear supersaturated; otherwise the choice of a wide-gamut monitor will bring the same issues that come when one purchases a desktop wide-gamut LCD.

I'm sorry to be so negative on a new product announcement, but the change in the keyboard layout is very disappointing.

Well, I wasn't going to buy a new laptop anyway; I'm hoping this T400 can last a few more years.

Jealous of the better cooling, backlit keyboard, and better audio (all the complaining worked!) of the X230. Is it thinner?

Interesting picture at Gallery: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon hands-on pictures | The Verge

Obviously the MBA screen dimmed, but you get some idea of the screen on the X1 Carbon. Some of the other screen angle shots in the gallery aren't so flattering but they are pretty extreme screen angles.

While IPS screens are great, I don't think you need something that great. I'd settle for something with a decent sweet sport like the Air.
