How can the W530 not have Thunderbolt? I would expect the workstation to have the connection but not a "mainstream" notebook.

it makes sense, to release 2 business ultrabooks with the ''specs'' would be awkward.

Are we sure the W530 is gonna offer an IPS monitor? The press release didn't say that it would. Laptopreviews only mentions it in the small paragraph "before the jump." In their detailed release, there is no mention of an IPS monitor.

I'm surprised with the 95% gamut, as it would suggest the same AUO B156HW01 V.4 panel. On the other hand, that panel is not produced any more, so I don't know.

Also, it would be the first laptop to combine IPS with Optimus, what I don't know how they can do. It would mean an additional circuit to make the screen work in 8-bit mode, or maybe 10-bit mode is now supported on HD4000?

You do realize that there's no "special hardware" needed to run IPS displays, right?

But if that turns out to be true, and the mountings are the same (for the W520), I want that screen.

Special hardware IS required for 10-bit screens. Look into why 8560w and M4600 has different motherboards to support the 10-bit screen, and also why you cannot have Optimus with 10-bit screens.

Of course, if you are talking about 6-bit IPS, like Sony SE or Envy 15, then yes, just for being IPS you don't need different hardware.

I can't believe they got rid of the top row of keys! That was one of the great differentiating factors of the thinkpads.
