    Default disable dvd drive?

Is there a way to disable the dvd drive button?

I've found that I accidentally hit the button all the time when I have it on my lap. I was on a flight the other day and it kept hitting the arm rest, eventually, I just stopped putting the tray back in.

Are you talking about the eject button?

If it is a ThinkPad you can just remove it when you don't need it and pop it back in.

    yes its a T420

hmm, I suppose I could just remove it but then there would just be a big hole, I suppose I can get an empty bay (or battery).

It would be nice to be able to just disable the button so I can still have the drive with me in case I do need it.

Have power management disable the drive. Re-power the drive when needed. Saves power and will prevent this unwanted eject.

If you have Windows 7, you could do this to your computer.

    1. Go to the Start Menu (Windows icon on your taskbar).

    2. Right-click on Computer (it is above Control Panel).

    3. Click Manage from the list that appears.

    4. Look for Device Manager and click on it.

    5. Look at the DVD/CD-ROM Drives and expand it.

    6. Choose the drive you want to disable by right clicking on it.

    7. Choose Disable.

    8. You've done it!

Optional: Right click on the disabled drive to reveal "Enable" and choose it if you want to use the drive again.

I wrote LockCD application after giving up on finding a properly functioning software that would lock the CD ROM eject button which i hit quite frequently on my Lenovo T520 laptop. The main problem with the software found over the internet was that it wouldn't retain the lock state after Sleep/Resume. I made it freely available at LockCD / Wiki / Home
