sounds like you're going to need to return it regardless. I wouldn't put up with it.

Can you provide more detail? Like why is it crashing?

Just received my x220 yesterday, and the experience has been a nightmare. If something isn't crashing constantly (Firefox especially) I get a nice BSOD instead. I also installed Starcraft 2 to push the system, and trying to play always seems to result in a BSOD.

Afterwards I wiped the hard drive to factory settings and tried again. Same crashes, Starcraft 2 won't even install now (MD5 mismatch error when patching). I ran Seagate Tools and Memtest86+ (for an hour) and found no errors.

Anyone else had this problem? Very frustrating to say at the least.

You're right, it looks like it was bad RAM. I ran Memtest again for a couple of hours today, and it found an error. Bought some memory and swapped it out with the bad one, and its been smooth sailing so far.

I guess I'll contact Lenovo now and see what they'll do with the bad RAM. Sending the laptop back is always an option, but sounds like a massive hassle. Meh.

If its definitely a bad memory issue see if Lenovo is willing to send you a new RAM module for the faulty one instead of sending the whole unit back. It probably work out a lot easier for yourself and for them too.

The cheapest I've seen the X220 with the i5 was about $620 over the summer. If you figure in your upgrades, that'd make it about $700. I'd say it's not bad for of late, but I've seen better. There'll be better pricing down the road. It's only a matter of when. The question is do you want to wait it out?

Are you not getting the IPS LCD? If you're looking to save a few bucks and it's just a general purpose machine, I'd drop down to the i3. I have the i3 and never once have I wished I upgraded.

Other than that, it looks like a nice machine. Pop in a mSATA drive and you're in like flynn.
