T400 And Boot From USB Flash Drive
Would like to boot from USB Lexar 8GB formatted FAT32 Jump drive from my Thinkpad T400 Vista Business 32bit laptop. Have made USB stick bootable with copied files but it will not boot. Could someone help me to adjust default BIOS settings so I can boot from the USB drive and thanks a lot.

Re: T400 And Boot From USB Flash Drive
if you never messed with the boot order in the bios, usb boot will be in sequence although default boot sequence usually gives cd drives and HDDs priority.
Therefore you dont need to do anything to the bios in this case.
You just need to press f12 when you first boot to get the boot menu. Sometimes the boot menu may be disabled but this is not by default.
Anyway, press f12, choose USB drive as boot.

Re: T400 And Boot From USB Flash Drive
What OS are you trying to boot from the USB stick? Windows will not boot from a USB stick. You can install FROM it, but not boot. There's a difference.

Re: T400 And Boot From USB Flash Drive
Thanks. I was trying to use a USB stick that had the ShadowProtect imaging recovery CD files on it A Windows PE environment but tried on two different laptops and does not boot. May be something with this particular drive not sure but thanks for help.

Re: T400 And Boot From USB Flash Drive
If you have a license...why won't Windows boot from it?
And Gary I'd re-init the drive and set the file system to NTFS.

Re: T400 And Boot From USB Flash Drive
Ah, I get it now. Most likely it's because the USB stick isn't listed as a boot device in the BIOS Boot options. Once it is, be sure to press F12 after power on (at the Lenovo logo) to get the boot device list.
