How to open Lenovo Y650
I just received my Y650 and have a brand new SSD .. the problem is opening up the cover to get it installed.
a) I removed the 20 screws and lifted it up at the front but it still seemed fixed at the back near the hinges. Are there some screws which i missed? After removing the 20 screws, how do i get it open?
b) when lifting up the cover there were a few connecting wires. is there enough clearance to replace the drive or do i have to disconnect some of the wires perhaps?

I don't think you have to remove 20 screws to get to the hard disk compartment...
For starters you could have tried looking in the manual first.Sony Vaio S13 - i5-3210M - 6GB - 750GB - Win 8

I think you would need to desconnect some wires, a shame a Ideapad does not have a downloadable PDF like Thinkpads (Hardware Maintenance Manual). The bottom of the notebook features the battery and an all-in-one bottom plate that must be removed in order to upgrade the RAM, hard drive, or replace any additional components. On one hand, this makes it easy to access the entire motherboard to make upgrades or repairs, but it also means Y650 owners have to remove 20 screws if they want to upgrade their notebook.

Re: How to open Lenovo Y650
Called lenovo on the phone and they were very helpful!
Here is the procedure:
1. pull out battery
2. undo 20 screws on base
3. turn over and pull off keyboard + disconnect keyboard cable
4. disconnect all cables
5. unclick white top half from base
6. disconnect any remaining wires
7. you need to unclick the little black thin bar with the lights and then remove wire from clips - then remove top half completely
8. remove x1 screw of the circuit board near the front edge/trackpad
9. slide harddrive towards you
10. unscrew harddrive from the little harddrive bracket
11. put everything back together!
Secret - entry is from the top NOT the bottom!
