Default Lenovo Extended warranty or Pay full repair costs?

Tonight, my computer did not start. I just got one long beep then two short beeps. Since my extended warranty already expired, Lenovo won't cover the alleged problem. They told me I would have to pay $ 120- 500+.

Do any of you guys know how much an extended warranty would cost? Would it be better than paying for the repair?

    Thanks in advanced.

Why would Lenovo extend the warranty on a notebook looking at an expensive repair? I think it's $170 per year to extend the warranty, but I think Lenovo reserves the right to inspect it before extending the warranty. You might want to try re-seating the memory. Which notebook do you have?

I thought their extended warranty covered the replacement of units in the system. I read that it might the system board, which I know is probably going to cost the most. I will try re-seating the memory tomorrow as you suggested.

It is a T61p, thanks for getting back to me.

I'd buy the upgrade because you could have other troubles down the road. Look at it this way. Any non-insured time you get is gratis. They owe you, if you've paid.

When I extended mine I had to do it before the original warranty ran out. This was a few years ago but if they will let you extend the warranty after it has ran out then go for it.

Thanks, I have had it for 2 years now and this is the only real problem I have had.

I would never buy a laptop without an extended warranty. Every one of my 5 dell laptops had to have the mother board replaced. All finally died after 5-6 years. One also had to have the display replaced. Other less costly repairs covered under the extended warranties - failing power supplies, short battery life, keyboard keys failed.

I picked the Lenovo because of their onsite/home warranty repair. Dell and Lenovo have the best/only onsite warranty plans. I believe HP offers onsite repair if you buy a business laptop. I really hate sending my computer to a repair depot.

Another reason is "availability". You need to maximize the availability to the user only in the days of time sharing it came down to *N. Im used to being treated in that fashion and its cheaper to accomplish these days.
