I'm having a tough time trying to solve this.

Have you tried to start over with a clean install?

    Follow the steps carefully.

Once you reach the step on the Intel Matrix Storage Manage Driver, go into start>run then browse for C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IMSM\PREPARE. In that folder there should a file called "install" (without quotes). Run that file. Then restart. On that restart, hit F1 at that first thinkpad logo screen and it'll go into BIOS. Here, hit the F9 key to restore everything to default. Then hit F10 to save and exit. The computer will restart again. At the desktop, it will detect new hardware.

The Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard appears.
    Click Next.
Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended), and then click Next.
Select Specify a location, then click Next.
Specify the path, C:\DRIVERS\WIN\IMSM, and click OK. The Driver Files Search Results window appears.
Click Next. The Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard appears.
    Click Finish.
When the System Settings Change window appears, click Yes. The computer restarts.

    Then continue with the guide.

It'll only detect new hardware once you switch it back to AHCI Mode and pressing F9 will restore all settings back to default which is AHCI mode. Make you sure save and exit.

I know this isn't the first clean installation you tried. Did it detect it before?

I'm not sure if it's detected before, but the audio worked in Vista before I installed XP.

Are you using a standard Microsoft CD? What kind is it? With SP2?

I've read somewhere that slipstreaming with a T61 is difficult and odd, but I may be wrong.

I think that might be an issue.

Have you tried installing the drivers through ThinkVantage System Update? I know it's not my recommendation but I'd like to know if that works.

Try the SP1 HDA driver: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-65440

It's possible that it's just slipstreaming in general that's causing the issues. I suggest you get your hands on a standard XP w/ SP2 disc, then I'm sure it'll work.

    Recovery CD Problems:

I have obtained a set of win xp recovery cd's and I am downgrading from vista.

I am having a problem...... I am having to use the Rescue and Recovery util that comes with the recovery disks and I keep getting the error on my initial disk as it is running a "Predesktop Loader"

"x:\Preboot\PYTHON24\LIB\SITE-PACKAGES\_XMLPLUS\DOM\EXT\READER\_INIT_.PYC could not be copied error 999 = Error performing inpage operation." message and the restore fails.

Is this an error any of you know anything about? I have been to Lenovo once and they were not very knowledgeable about this.

I have tried a low level format on the hdd but I still get the error.

I am using an external Liteon USB DVD rw drive with my x61.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks
