I was following the guide when I got to the install driver part. But I stupidly installed the 2nd item listed. So I ended up skipping over the intel chip set installation. I realized that I skipped over it only when I got to the video driver. So is my system screwed? Should I do another clean installation? Or is it not that big of a deal?

    Thanks.

And for some reason my bluetooth firmware is not installing because for some reason the hardware cannot be found. Any ideas?

    Hi guyz,

Thanks for this post and discussion. I followed the guidelines for installing vista in t400, everything worked fine except my sata and 11b/gwireless mini pci express adapter. I can manage with IDE simulated env of SATA, as there is only minimal change in access speeds, but without wireless lan, I am not able to connect to internet.

In Device manger, 11b/g wireless lan... under Network adapters is showing but with a yellow question mark and each time I log into xp, its saying found new hardware and asking for driver for the same.(wlan).

Guyz plz sugggest what can I do. I tried installing xp twice, but got the same problem. Wireless lan is working flawlessly in my vista, which I am having in my dual boot system.

Hi folks I don't quite understand the whole licensing thing. I have a SL400 and ordered it downgraded to XP Professional. My computer came with XP Pro installed but on the bottom is a Vista Business OEM Key.

So if I want to do a clean install of XP Pro can I just write down the key under "registered to" in system properties and use that with an OEM XP Pro install disc? Or there a different key that these special programs are supposed to retrieve?

And if I want to do a clean install of Vista Business I can just use the key on the bottom and an OEM Vista business install disc? Will I have to call this one in?

This guide seems to work wonderfully for thinkpads (as announced), but I'm seeing messages around the web from people with Lenovo 3000 N200s who could not load the Intel Matrix Storage Manager as per this instalation guide. One of those was from Ajschylos in this same thread, but if he ever found a solution, he didn't post it here.

From what I'm starting to understand, my Intel Matrix Storage Manager from Lenovo is actually a disk image, which somehow has to be introduced before XP installation even begins. Here are the instructions from Lenovo:

    Installation instructions

    1. On another system, extract this package onto the hard drive.
    2. Connect a USB-Floppy Disk drive or USB-Hard disk drive.
    3. Specify f6flpy32.exe with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 1, and double-click.

    On target system

    1. Connect a USB-Floppy Disk driver or USB-Harddisk drive that you used in the above steps on the target system.
    2. Restart with Windows XP SP2 Operating System CD and press F6. The following message is displayed.

    Windows Setup
Setup could not determine the type of one or more mass storage devices installed in your system, or you have chosen to manually specify an adapter. Currently, Setup will load support for the following mass storage devices(s):
    (none)
    * To specify additional SCSI adapters, CD-ROM drives, or special disk controllers for use with Windows, including those for which you have a device support disk from a mass storage device manufacturer, press S...

Some questions I have about this, primarily the first set of instructions:

    1. will a usb pen drive work for this? It says usb floppy drive or usb hard disk...
    2. What does it mean where it says in step 3 :"Specify f6flpy32.exe with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 1"
    3. Does anyone think this might be doable by somehow slipstreaming the driver disk image into an xp install disk? Here I'm out of my pay grade, because I haven't ever figured out how to slipstream, but I understand the program nLite is handy for such things, and I'm (obviously) a glutton for this kind of punishment.

So, anyone have any insights? I've looked all over Lenovo's and Intel's websites, and I just don't see any other way to do this...

This is my third post here, in answer to my second. I have now successfully installed XP with the Intel Matrix Storage Manager incorporated in the install disk, thanks to nLite. Here is a helpful guide to doing what I did.

    http://www.msfn.org/board/Integratio...54#entry797754

I had some problems in the process, but I think my case was rather particular. In the end , I followed the process using my Lenovo 3000 N200 with Vista Home Premium and my XP installation disks and was successful. I will now continue following the guide here to finish the installation of other drivers, etc.

I hope this is helpful for those that don't have a thinkpad and have to install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager by other means.
