High-Frequency Whine from AC Adapter?
have any of you guys encountered a high frequency whine from the brick part of the AC adapter?
my friend just recently received an x61s, and there is a high-pitch whine that comes from it when it is plugged into the laptop.
i'll prolly just send it in and get a different one, but just wondering if anybody else has encountered this.
PS: this is different from the high-pitched noise that comes from the laptop (i know that is a common issue), but it sounds similar. just a different source of the noise.

Re: High-Frequency Whine from AC Adapter?
Both of my bricks (90w and 65w) make a strange, barely audible, clicking noise once in a while.

Re: High-Frequency Whine from AC Adapter?
I just received my x61s as well and it is making a similar sound (high pitch whine) from the brick of the AC adapter when the laptop is running and it is charging. It is a 65W adapter. Is this simply a faulty adapter that needs to be replaced?

Re: High-Frequency Whine from AC Adapter?
If my high school physics still serve me right, the whining and other noises are caused by the inductive coils inside the AC adaptor. There are two coils, one connecting to the mains and one to the laptop. The coils will induce an electrical current to get the correct voltage and current for our laptops. This whine is due to the coils' vibration due to the induction. I hope that's correct. Reminds me of those transformers outside your home.
Anyway, there's no problem if there's a whine. I've had my Dells, HPs and T43s which also had the same behaviour. It's nothing to worry about.
Cheers,
Nick

Re: High-Frequency Whine from AC Adapter?
I just received my T61 on 7/26/07, and I am also getting a high-pitch whine originating from the AC adapter. It is far from "barely audible". Gonna try tech support to get a new one, as it is extremely annoying. Yeah, it's nothing to worry about if you enjoy a continuous dog-whistle going off in your ear.

Considering Lenovo's high-quality record, I am surprised they didn't catch this hardware flaw.Last edited by mrgrey; 28th July 2007 at 05:25 PM.
