X61 tablet pen problem

I recently got a new X61 tablet and am having problems with the pen(s) that came with the system. In tablet mode, it doesn't seem to recognize the pen.
Symptoms include; no pen-cursor, can't write on screen, can't select anything. I tried calibrating the pen but can't even do that as the system cannot detect the pen on the crosshairs.

Has anyone else seen this problem and how was it fixed?

It seems like your system doesn't have a driver yet or it's not installed correctly.

You'd better run System Update (Lenovo software) or go to this page and download a driver you need. If your model has only active digitizer, no touch (passive digitizer), you may download a driver from Wacomm directly.

I ran System Update and all the drivers are up-to-date.
I checked Device Manager and the "Wacom Penabled MiniDriver" is installed. (version 2.7.8.4 dated 1/22/07)
From the Wacom site, I installed "Wacom Penabled Driver Driver 5.03-3 (RC) for Penabled Tablet PCs" (4/12/07).
The system still does not recognize the tablet-pen.

That's really odd. My system was not recognized Touch once, but after I updated the driver. It's working as it should.

I think what you should try is uninstalling Wacom Penabled driver and then restart once. Just let windows find the device itself. I mean if it could find the device, another thing you should try is your pen. If you have a friend who has a Wacomm tablet, just try. If not, contact Lenovo and tell the symptom. They might be able to help.

i have the same problem as WCH. i have been using my X61 tablet for about 8 months now. Suddenly one afternoon the pen stops working and the multi touch stops works as well. i have tried everything including driver update to get it to work. any ideas what else might get it to work?

After upgraded the BIOS using "System Update", and installed wacom driver, it works.

Be careful for updating BIOS.
