Storage manager is not Thinkvantage and it is a driver you should install. Trusted platform module?

Active protection doesn't kepp the hard drive in shaper necessarily. It does offer some level of shock protection if you laptop in dropped. Some people have reported having stability problems with it. Maybe or maybe not the driver fault in my opinion, but I would still stay away from it for a couple weeks at least. See if you have a stable system, then install it and test to see if it causes you any stability issues.

Hehe...one laaaaast thing (promise)--when I turn on my laptop, at the point where the windows start sound plays, the screen flashes (seems to turn on and off again). Is that normal?

Do you have integrated graphics? Sounds like a driver problem. The same thing happened to me with the igfx driver provided on the T61 driver matrix page. I had stability issues with that driver, so i went to the intel site and installed the newest driver they had available on their site. Everything is working fine right now.

I installed the latest driver from Intel (from what I can tell). I installed the gma965 driver. What would you suggest I do?

What is the driver version? So you installed the igfx driver from the T61 driver matrix page and you're having the monitor flashing problem? Then you installed the newest driver from the Intel site and you're still having the problem? Did you look over the read me file? Did you uninstall the original igfx driver, reboot, and then install the new driver?

Another thing i3eezenotch, the Thinkvantage drivers/utilities have been around for XP much much longer than for Vista. I'd be inclined to think that you won't have any problems with them on an XP system. But, time is on your side and none of them are really absolutely necessary. I'd still stick with installing one every week or two. When you install everything at once it is hard to isolate problem utilities. It might also be a good idea to google the utility for issues. Just google "Active protection system issues (or problem)" or something like that. Almost guaranteed that if someone had an issue with a particular driver or utility they have already asked about it somewhere.

I initially installed directly from intel--under display adapters in device manager, I have two. Both say "intel 965 eEx[ress Chipset family. And under the driver tab in properties, I see:

Version: 6.14.10.48.47----6/22/07

So you have both drivers installed right now? Can you do me a favor and uninstall both igfx drivers and reboot? Then, go back to the intel page and download and install the igfx driver again. I'm running Vista, but i'll try to help as much as i can.

Nooo, I mean I have 2 "devices" listed under the "display adapters" section of Device manager. Both are using the driver version I lsited above. I did a fresh install of windows XP and installed only one set of intel drivers--the one I got from the intel site.
