Y470 Major Performance Issues
I am having problems with my Y470 in regards to massive random stuttering of my graphics in any game. I have done the optimus fix, uninstalled the lenovo power management software and done the windows power management fixes (and tried with those not on), did the cpu parking disable, and at the end I am still having problems. I bought this laptop with the intention of doing some light gaming and even team fortress 2 is having massive lag spikes, which it shouldn't have at all. Additionally, optimus appears to be working (the control manager is showing the game .exe files working through optimus). Any additional help would be greatly appreciated.
I have the 2.3ghz i5, 8gb ram, and the gt550m.
UPDATE: Got told by the tech support folks that they can look at it to see if a gfx card is a failure, but it's not their fault it isn't performing as it should. I'm really wondering about returning it based upon that attitude.

Re: Y470 Major Performance Issues
is the fan on "efficient thermal dissipation"....press the "crescent moon" soft touch button above the keyboard and make sure it's on that setting...that might be your issue if it's not the gpu...also make it's on high performance and the led for optimus is on (i know you mentioned it but I am just mentioning it again for reference) and make sure an led is on when you turn the silver switch in front of the laptop.Lenovo IdeadPad Y470 - Intel i5 2410m 2.3 ghz - Nvidia GT 550M- 8GB RAM - Seagate Momentus XT 750 GB 7200RPM

Re: Y470 Major Performance Issues
The setting is set to the "efficient thermal" setting. Additionally, the GPU light is on and shows it turn on/off when it toggles. And I am manually adding the game .exe to the whitelist and have the global whitelist turned on. I am wishing nvidia would have just continued with the switchable graphics options.
Additionally, if yours is working right. What version of the drivers are you using?

285.62 and I have had no issues ever. Games run great. Same model as you. I used Lenovos energy management and put it on high performance. What is your temperature at? Grab realtemp for the CPU temps and use MSI Afterburner to see what GPU temps are.

Re: Y470 Major Performance Issues
To me, I had this same problem, and for me the problem was McAfee Antivirus. Once mine expired and I got a new different antivirus, all of my lag stuttering spikes vanished completely. If you can get a different antivirus, I would try it.

That could be it. I use Microsoft Security Essentials. Works great.
