If it's the same heatsink as the 470, then yes. Just use a good quality thermal paste (I used IC Diamond) and don't use too much of it. My temps rarely exceed 80 degrees, and that's while gaming.

On that note, though, does anyone know where I can buy replacement screws like the ones on the bottom of the laptop? One of mine is stripped.

EDIT: Should have read the repair manual first. They are M2.5x8mm, and I can buy them in quantity from laptopscrews.com (of all places!)
Can you be more specific because I am not sure what part you are referring to?

Hi all! Sorry for throwing a stone into the bush! I have a Y570, i7 2630QM and 12GB RAM. I want to install an extra SSD together with my HDD. I know my laptop has the capacity to do this, so what I want to know is if anyone here's done it before, and if you have any tips/tricks?

    Thanks!

I'm owner of a Y470. I also had problems in games (FPS drops down while playing games). I disassembled my laptop, cleared cooler, and replaced thermal paste (I didn't use too much). Now it works perfectly, I can play Diablo 3 without any problems. GPU temperature was around 90-95 degrees Celsius before replacing thermal paste, and it's around 70-75 degrees after replacing.

Today I've bought OCZ Nocti Series NOC-MSATA-120G and installed it successfully. Installation was really easy, nothing special. The only problem was missing screw for a new module.

Also I installed 16GB of RAM (2x Kingston KVR1333D3S9/8G). It works perfectly. The funny thing was when I went to BIOS straight after installation. And the amount of RAM shown there was 6384 MB . I thought it was a problem with frequencies, but then I noticed that they were the same as in previous RAM modules. So I installed 8GB and 4GB modules. The BIOS prompted that I have 2288 MB. I was like "what the ". Then I installed both 8GB modules and booted in my OS and saw that I actually have all of my precious 16GB of RAM I looks like BIOS can not display more than 4 symbols for the amount of RAM.

    hi,

is there an alternative way of changing brightness, i need to change it even before windows starts, for example when i am using the bios menu. the fn+up/down keys don't work when i am at the bios menu.

    thanks

May buy an SSD for mine at a later time, sounds like a fun / easy upgrade to do.

I recently applied some Arctic Silver 5 to my GPU/CPU. Everything works except for the GPU. SpeedFan doesn't detect a GPU and I cannot open Nvidia Control Panel. I took off the sticker but one of the posters said that it doesn't matter. There's some sticker residue left on it. I'll admit, it is not as clean as it should be but I'm not sure if that is the problem. I can guarantee it did not short circuit because it was dry.

the nvidia gpu doesn't get detected until it is in used. Run a game and try again. If it is still not there then check the switches, and then the driver.

If all else fails, you're doomed.
