    Default Dv6 and msata ssd

A friend of mine recently bought a dv6. He wants to add a msata ssd if he has the slot. Do all dv6 have the slot, even if you didn't order it with one? His specs:

It should. But you'll probably have to disassemble the notebook to access it.

If I read right, it's kind of moot to use an mSSD with a hybrid drive, since a hybrid drive has its own cache. Could be wrong tho.

you read it right, but the plan was to add a 120gb msata ssd for os, programs, and fav games, and use the 500gb spinner for movies, music, pictures, and probably a few games too. was looking at the crucial drive in particular.

may go a different route now with a reguar ssd and use the optical bay for the storage drive. i told him that is the option i would go with.

Ah, I see. Probably pulled the trigger too early replying to ya.

Yeah, all dv6's have the mSATA slot. I'd actually go for something in the mSATA slot, since it's one less bay to use (you can keep the ODD and have two drives) and also, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere about people having difficulties using the ODD slot with faster SSD drives that are SATA III's. I personally use MyDigitalSSD Smart Series 64GB, but it's for caching. When I get the money (and when I get motivated) I'll be buying a bigger mSATA to use both as cache for the HDD and as the Windows install disk.

The DV6 manual says that it can only support a 32GB mSATA SSD. I am interested to put in a 128GB mSATA SSD with 12GB of system memory. Does anyone know if it (128GB) can be supported? I heard that the mSATA drive cannot be detected when there is 16GB of memory installed. Is it true?

Not true. Just installed 16GB of RAM and my cache still works. However, if you plan on using 128GB as cache, only 64gb can be used. the other half will be available as storage memory.
