8GB RAM Modules in this laptop?
I'd like to find out if 8GB SODIMMs will work in my laptop to allow an upgrade to 16GB (2x8GB) for use with Photoshop and Lightroom. My specifics are: HP DV6Z SE (DV6Z-3200) which has an AMD M880G chipset motherboard, has two slots for DDR3 1300 RAM, and is running InsydeH20 F.28 bios. If anyone has tried 8GB sticks, I'd like to know if they work. Also, other manufacturers have sold laptops with M880g chipsets and possibly the same InsydeH20 BIOS that might be a good indicator of a go-or-no-go for 8GB sticks.
Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, this model supports 8GB of DDR3 ram only. Manual here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02659236.pdf

Re: 8GB RAM Modules in this laptop?
I realize that the specs of this model from HP list 8GB max (2x4GB) but those specs are from when it was produced (early 2011) and 8GB modules were not yet being produced. Also, I think this chipset and cpu should both support 16GB (2x8GB). I have seen reports from others with Core i3,5,7 laptops that the manuf. lists as 2x4GB max., and people are successfully using 2x8GB ram in them. It really is dependent on the MB chipset and BIOS. So I'm hoping someone else with a similar laptop has tried 8GB sticks and can report back one way or the other.

Re: 8GB RAM Modules in this laptop?
More than likely it will work. It has worked on my old DV6 that had a 6750m and a quad core AMD chip. So overall I would bet good money that it will work its just that HP didnt test it with 8 gig DIMM's because some may work and some may not so they cover themselves by limiting it to (2) 4 gig sticks. just get some of Newegg and worst case scenario you can return it.

Re: 8GB RAM Modules in this laptop?
I have a completely different laptop to yours but on my laptops manual and even live chat with HP they told me the max memory that my laptop can hold is only 8GB as well and I have two 8GB memory sticks installed on my laptop. I have the HP DV7T-61B00. Let's just say anything is possible.

Re: 8GB RAM Modules in this laptop?
Since I didn't get any replies from anyone who had actually tried 8GB sticks in a similar AMD MB, I decided to try it myself. I purchased a dual channel kit:
CORSAIR 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 Laptop Memory Model CMSO16GX3M2A1333C9
and it turns out that it does work. One small "bug" is that the BIOS only displays 4 digits of the memory size, showing "6384MB" instead of "16384MB", but all 16GB are recognized and used.

Wow, thanks for posting this! I was thinking of upgrading to 8GB of RAM instead of 6 (In specs are written 8GB max RAM supported), but now I'll consider buying 2x 8 GB sticks
