Default Fan constantly running on high

For some reason, the fans on my dv6-6170us are constantly running on high. I have no idea why this is. I can start the computer up and just open Firefox and the fans will start kicking in. No idea what is causing this. Any suggestions? Also, I have my HP CoolSense setting set to Performance Optimized Mode.

My DV7 was running on high because there was dust clogging the vents. When was the last time you cleaned out your DV6?

That unfortunately is one factor some user forget to do is clean out the vents or take apart their laptop and do a thoroughly good dusting out of their laptop and reapplying their thermal paste. Dust builds up over time and thermal paste will wear out eventually. These are two thing one must remember if they want a laptop to last for some time til either it dies or reach its end of life span.

Taking apart my system was a total PIA. It took me forever to reconnect the keyboard cable. Hopefully his DV6 isn't any more difficult than mine was. How long would you say stock thermal paste lasts before needing replacement? I've owned mine for just over a year now and plan on repasting after the 2-year mark.

Didn't think it would be necessary considering I've only had it since October.

I didn't think I would have to either, having only owned mine for about a year, but even just a small amount of dust clogging a particular vent inside my DV7 made all the difference for me.

How did you go about opening it? I've personally never opened a laptop before.

Look it up on youtube on a separate computer.

But doesn't opening your computer void the warranty?

    I was also thinking that.

What should the temp normally be on a laptop when just browsing? I downloaded CPUID Hardware Monitor Pro and it tells me the temperatures, just not sure how to interpret them.

You would have to specify the Processor and what exactly your doing. The all mighty google god could help you if you type in your processor/graphics card and look up avarage temps for it.
