dv6 Beats audio - notebook speakers not loud at all!!
Bought this notebook last month, and since then I have been checking my sound level every so often just to find its already at max. Beats definitely makes a difference in the sound quality, but sound decibels coming out of notebook speakers feel very low. In comparison, my four year old dv6700t with altec lancing speakers give an impression of filling the whole room playing the same audio file. While the issue is non-existent when using external speakers, this is a notebook, and using external speakers is not possible every time. Does anyone else share my concern about speakers not being very loud??

Hopefully this will help. Right-click the speaker/sound icon on the bottom right of your Windows bar and click 'Playback Devices'. Right click 'Speakers and Headphones', click 'Properties', go to the 'Enhancements' tabs and disable the bass boost (if it's on). Then, go to the 'Tone Control' tab and click 'Reset to Zero'.
The whole Beats thing is a marketing gimmick. It doesn't really improve the sound, HP just messes with the tone controls whenever the computer boots up (so you're going to have to reset your bass/treble to zero every time you restart your comp).

Agreed, they should've put a woofer on it. One of the reasons I traded in, still the sound isn't that loud on my dv7. Also depends on the clip you're playing, notice some youtube videos have lower sound.
Beats isn't a gimmick, try it on your headphones.

I think the loudness is fine. But all beats do is put a software to come with the driver. AND the software is just a mere normalizer and fake bass adder.

Guys, am I the only one, who can't find the 'Enhancements' tab? The screenshot below shows what I can see after right clicking 'Speakers and Headphones', and choosing 'Properties':
EDIT: Driver version of "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC" 6.10.6381.0
"Intel(R) Display Audio" 6.14.0.3086Last edited by prebuss; 12th April 2012 at 05:07 PM. Reason: Added details about audio drivers' versions
