HP DV7T-6100 Quad Edition Question
Hello my name is Andrew and I recently bought an HP DV7T-6100 Quad Edition a few months ago with all the bells and whistles. I am in love with this laptop, however I do have one problem I hope you guys can help me with.
When using my laptop my hand/wrists rest on the cutouts for the speakers on the front of my laptop. (Area in question circled in red.)

Now the plastic (highlighted in yellow) has broken off completely on one side and has cracked on the other.

My question is has anyone experienced this and if so did HP help you out or did you have to buy the part yourself? Also can anyone provide the HP Part number for the part I need to order to fix these broken areas.
I know it is cosmetic but the laptop is fairly new and it bothers me that my new laptop has places that are broken/cracked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry for double posting. I didn't realize there was a thread solely for my model of laptop.

Did you check to see if you're under warranty? I remember my DV6T coming with some default plan.

Re: HP DV7T-6100 Quad Edition Question
I actually had it fall off on the right side of mine....When I sent it in for repairs they said it was customer deemed damage. If it wasn't for my case manager that I've been in contact with since November (for several repairs and replacement laptops) I would of had to fork over $241.32 to repair which is ridiculous for just the base enclosure. The plastic is seems very cheap where that part is and it is so thin it can break so easily.

Re: HP DV7T-6100 Quad Edition Question
To be FAIR to HP, even though the plastic band IS extremely prone to damage during the assembly/disassembly procedure, it shouldn't normally be prone to excessive wear, under normal conditions, once properly installed.
I know, everyone's situation MAY be different, but I would bet MOST of the part failure is due to inexperience during disassembly/reassembly. This model certainly was NEVER designed for easy user intervention

Re: HP DV7T-6100 Quad Edition Question
You can say it is user error but that plastic is very flimsy and your arm is always on that part and you move your arm a lot it will break sometime...It cannot be due to "inexperience during disassembly/reassembly." Because I never even opened my laptop as well. Not trying be aggressive but I just wanted to tell you that is cannot be due to that.

Re: HP DV7T-6100 Quad Edition Question
Andrew, same thing happened to mine just a few weeks after I bought it. The right side broke first, then the left side. It's solely from my arm being on it, and is completely flimsy. It's absolutely a design flaw. As Mike said, he would have been charged to fix it and I'm sure I would have been had I sent it in.
However, I could not stand the broken opening. Both from an aesthetic view and from rubbing my arm against the now sharp edge. I glued it back on with crazy glue. However, I first jammed some black felt into the upper hole to hold it in place. That was actually during my second fix. The first time I did it without the felt but the crazy glue did not hold. With the felt covering the hole and holding the top piece, it has held fine for months. It's not the prettiest thing in the world or not the ugliest, but it works and I rarely even notice it now. If you'd like a picture of what I did, let me know and I will post one.
Incidentally, I recently have a crack in the trim over the VGA port. Good luck.

Re: HP DV7T-6100 Quad Edition Question
Obviously you people cant treat a computer right. My roommate is the same way.I treat my laptop like a human baby and thus it has nary a scratch. Buy a laptop bag to hold your laptops and treat them respectfully and they will last forever.
