I have yet to find anyone who is able to run a Second Life viewer on the 6100 revision. Following the standard procedure for designating the GPU by application fail to work. I have the 6000 revision on my 2-week-old DV7T and SL runs just fine. I wanted to return it and get the 1900 X 1080 screen but I know I'll get the newer 6100 version and be stuck with being unable to run SL.

I'll give it a try. tell me what you are tying to run and provide a link.

Update: DLoading SLV now. Will see if I can get 6770m to kick in, although I'm thinking that IGP may handle it fine.

Update: Damn dude, SL is a resource HOG. So, it absolutely cripples the Intel IGP. Unfortunately, I could not get the 6770 to kick in. I set SLV for high performance. That didnt work. Also, I tried running a program that caused the 6770 to kick in, and THEN I loaded SLV, and it still did its little hardware diagnostic at startup and wouldnt recognize the 6770, even though it was running at the time. If SL is important to you, i certainly would not recommend the 6100 just yet, because running it on the intel IGP si like watching a slideshow.

not that I know anything about SL, but couldn't there be some other file that needs to be set to High performance for it to kick in? I think they really need a database of programs so that you can just pick a program and then CCC does the legwork in figuring out which executables need to be set to "high performance"

You do know how ridiculous that sounds for a consumer product, right? HP has their head up you-know-where if they expect the general public to be hunting around for the "proper" executable. I think the whole notion is, quite frankly, STUPID! HP needs to get this resolved now. I emailed "the CEO", but of course, that appears to have been a fruitless exercise.

Does Second Life run via a launcher? In other words when u click on the SL icon does it goto a launcher that lets u enter ur account details, set graphics & sound options etc and you actually start the game from this launcher? I wouldnt know as I dont use/have SL, but if its like LOTR Online Or Age of Conan for example you start the game via a launcher(so it can update your game etc).
If you do, you may have to look through your Program files etc to find the "actual" .exe that is the game. Going on past Nvidia Optimus experience that generally fixes the problem.

That is exactly the problem. The launcher for SL runs a search for the GPU, and it doesnt find the 6770. Those types of programs don't work well with switchable. Programs that work fine are ones that just let themselves be boosted by whatever hardware is there, without needing to look around and "authorize" specific hardware before hand, like SL is doing for some reason.

Hey you guys I just created an account here to say that I am also experiencing the same issues related to not being able to manually switch the gpu on a dvt-6100. I would like to add to the conversation by saying that the performance of the ATI gpu 6770m 1Gb seems far less then the dvt-6000 i owned a couple weeks ago, specifically while playing Crysis. The mouse for some reason becomes far less responsive and their is a considerable lag even though the frame rate is 30+ (it is unplayable). Testing on the intel gpu shows a 10-15 fps however the mouse is more responsive. These are medium settings even though I previously played it on a mix of high and medium.

So I ran sims 3 with high performance and all the settings maxed out on my dv7-6143cl w/ 8gb ram, i7 2630, hd6770m 17.3" screen w/ 1600*900 and I get around 15-30 fps using fraps. The sims3 sounds like a lame non-hardcore game but it must be a hog on graphics. My wife uses the architecture feature to build homes and towns etc. There are 8 discs of expansions to install but I thought a 6770 would give better fps. So then I turned it on power saver and it only dropped about 10 fps or wouldnt run.

Then on my wifes samsung rf511-03 with an nvidia gt 540 I was getting 20 fps consistently with the same maxed out settings but it only has an i5 2410 and 6gb ram although its a 15.6" with 1366*768.

I must say the nvidia set up is a hell of a lot easier with a much better ui set up. That amd is pure crap having to go select every bloody exe. and never know what the heck is running. I tried canurunit on the HP and all it could detect was the stupid IGP.I but it worked on my the nvidia.

Is it normal for for the performance to be the same on the i5 2410 gt540 vs the i7 2630 6770?

Why would you revert to a much older version than your HP stock driver?

Second, running test mode is a pretty bad idea for a computer usage that isn't used for evaluation only.
