Re: Gaming - dv6tqe/dv7tqe
the stock AMD drivers - 8.830.6.1000.
When I tried running the updated driver for 8.830.6.2000, it also BSoD'd with the same error... (this was from simply extracting the stuff out of the sp*.exe file, I didn't even start installing) I'll try again shortly.
edit: no BSoD yet
edit 2: L4D2 still crashes after opening cutscene, on the title image, but before title menu loads, even on 8.830.6.2000.Last edited by neothe0ne; 14th July 2011 at 06:51 AM.

Re: Gaming - dv6tqe/dv7tqe
Okay... Borderlands works fine. Full frames at 1080p with low settings. CPUID Hardware Monitor shows temperatures for the "Intel HD Graphics" when running DirectX games (otherwise it's at 0C) so I know Borderlands was running on the Radeon.
After setting launch options "-windowed" for L4D2, I know L4D2 was also running on the Radeon, but it crashes to desktop before the title menu comes up. I set L4D2 to power saving mode and it was running on the Intel ,and it crashed at the same place.
Can't reproduce those BSoD's now though..

Re: Gaming - dv6tqe/dv7tqe
Run the hard drive diagnostics in Bios. I had a similar issue, my drive was bad. Replaced and no more BSoDs. Probably trying to access a bad area of the drive, I thought it was Google Chrome, but was probably where the cache for Chrome was stored (damaged area).
Question: Anyone know how to get the advanced graphics card options for the ATi? My desktop 6870 has a ton of options, but only a couple for the DV7t-60XX...Last edited by qlippoth; 14th July 2011 at 01:16 PM.

Re: Gaming - dv6tqe/dv7tqe
Actually, here's another problem:
My laptop came with 4 partitions, but the 99mb partition for HP_TOOLS was not formatted or named, I had to do so myself. (I did FAT32).
Did anyone else receive their laptop without the HP_TOOLS partition setup?
(I'm running CHKDSK, 12% done and Windows replaced bad clusters in 2 separate files post-clean install. so far, files 231129 and 298630. Currently on 305166 and headed toward 461808 total...)

Re: Gaming - dv6tqe/dv7tqe
I actually had a second drive with OS installed in case of HD failure, but didn't write down the CODE given at the HD test failure report. Make sure you WRITE it down. I had to reinstall it then run it again. Same issue, failed the short test in less than 10 seconds.
What was nice, I used the Chat option and gave them the code the second chat. They shipped the drive next day air, and got it the next day. I received the box, swapped new drive for old into the box and shipped it back off with the shipping label provided by HP. VERY easy and pain free. Obviously they let me just ship the drive, since I agreed I could perform the repair myself. I also got a free set of recovery DVDs, since the backup data on the drive might be useless. Bonus!
They take a credit card in case you keep the faulty drive (not sure how this would work as they require a code from the test software), and put a hold for a dollar. When they receive the drive they take off the hold, and presumably if you keep faulty the drive they (over)charge you for the drive you kept.

Re: Gaming - dv6tqe/dv7tqe
Hi
I was wondering if anyone knows whether Hp underclocked the 6770m graphics card in these models.I saw in another forum that an employee had admitted that Hp does this. Thanks,I'll probably buy a dv7tqe even with the switchable graphics problems as long as I can play directx games, but I'm curious if there was an underclocking done on the new 6100 series.
Envy 14 Graphics Card - HP Support ForumHello,
The ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650 can be set to a range of operating parameters while still providing awesome performance. In order to give customers an overall premium experience on the ENVY14, we chose to offer the ATI Mobility Radeon HD5650 with a clock speed operating at 450MHz.
With this GPU clock speed, customers should experience a greater balance of performance, power utilization and thermal efficiency. This means lower power utilization, less heat and a thinner notebook – all still within a sleek metal form factor.

Don't think so, at least not for the 60xx series. Multiple programs have detected the stock frequencies.
