Re: HP DM1z
I doubt it. People say they get 3 to 4 hours from the 625 which is in line from what I get with the 325. People can get more, but then you got the display turned all the way down and basically idling. The difference is 1.5 versus 1.3ghz. I would have gone for the upgrade but I chose the 325 to keep the system down below 450 bucks.
Somewhere I have seen benchmarks on the two and from what I remember, the performance should be noticable. Bottom line, if price is not an issue, I would get the 625.Toshiba Satellite P740 14" 720P display, 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, Intel HD graphics, 12 cell, BT, BD burner, Harman Kardon speakers, i5 2430M, 3 yr warranty and LED-backlit keyboard for $900.00 total.

Re: HP DM1z
If you want battery life, I would wait for the Consumer Electronics Show in 2011 where AMD will most likely release their new Fusion architectures for netbooks and ultraportables - essentially replacing the Neo platform found in the DM1z.
Better battery life, better performance, and cheaper.MacBook Pro, 15" 1680x1050 Matte LCD, Intel Quad-Core i7 Processor @ 2.2ghz, 8GBs of RAM, 750 GB 5400RPM HD, AMD Radeon 6750M HD, Mac OS X Snow Leopard + Windows 7 Professional

Re: HP DM1z
HP revs up Pavilion dm1 with AMD Fusion, the notbook wars have begun -- Engadget
We're about to see an onslaught of AMD Fusion-powered 11.6-inch laptops, and HP's newly revised Pavilion dm1 is among the first to be announced, along with the Lenovo X120e. The case has been substantially hotted-up from last year's dm1, and inside you're looking at a dual-core 1.6GHz Vision E-350 APU, which includes Radeon HD 6310M graphics that power an LED-backlit 1366 x 768 BrightView display. 3GB of memory comes standard with a max of 8GB, and there's a 320GB drive and an SD card reader as well as 3 USB ports, HDMI and VGA out, and an Ethernet port. Best of all, it weighs in at 3.52 pounds with a six-cell 55WHr battery that's promised to run for "up to 9 hours and 30 minutes." That's a lofty claim, and one we look forward to testing in the days ahead -- along with just how much real-world performance that E-350 APU really provides for the dm1's $449 MSRP. We'll let you know -- for now, check out some hands-on shots below.

Re: HP DM1z
Hey, whattya know, I was right.

Looks promising - if it comes close to 9 hours and 30 minutes of battery life... I think as long as it gets 7+ Hours this platform has essentially destroyed the Atom.
Great job by AMD on this new chip. Now we just need some reviews and benchmarks of it. Supposedly it's processor is only slightly faster (~5-7%) than the Neo platform but it's graphics performance and battery life is where it shines.MacBook Pro, 15" 1680x1050 Matte LCD, Intel Quad-Core i7 Processor @ 2.2ghz, 8GBs of RAM, 750 GB 5400RPM HD, AMD Radeon 6750M HD, Mac OS X Snow Leopard + Windows 7 Professional

Re: HP DM1z
I'll need to see benchmarks, but this looks very promising. I might have to buy a Fusion netbook, or whatever class they will be.

Re: HP DM1z
Just returned mine today. One of the keys "y" got really stiff yesterday. Today it acted normally? Not sure whats going on there but I was worried it would happen again later. Plus the lid was warped.. Did not rest evenly when closed. This was the second replacement system and the first was a complete disaster where it was not assembled correctly and the memory/HD door would not close properly and the battery would not seat at all! It was hard to send back for refund but in the end, this machine leaves me doubts about build quality. The display was nice but no matter how I calibrated it, it seemed washed out a bit too much for my liking. Especially on text that has lighter grays. Turning the brightness down helped but at times, it was hard to read some text. I guess the Grey levels are not as strong as I would have liked. I'm going to wait now and see what comes up on the new models and look more closely at the dm3 as well.
I like the keyboard allot more on the dm1 above with the black keys and white characters. The old gold one I had was darn near impossible to read. Especially the Function keys. What a bad design that was. I'm glad HP got some sense and went back to a readable keyboard. Crap, on closer inspection, HP increased the size of the keyboard where it uses almost all the width of the notebook. On the one I just sent back, there was a sizable border on both ends. Also notice HP got rid of the horrible loud clicking mouse buttons and have what looks to be better solution. Yeap, I waited the full 21 days and I am really glad I returned it after looking at those you tubes!! HP really looked at all the flaws of the older system. I know, I experienced them for the last 3 weeks and this looks like a good job ironing out the flaws. If the new AMD processor gets at least 7 hours on the new dm1z, I might just re consider purchasing it again later.Last edited by HI DesertNM; 4th January 2011 at 08:17 PM.

Re: HP DM1z
Went ahead and pulled the trigger. The new DM1z has hit HP.com
Specs I chose: $503.54
dm1z
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• AMD Dual-Core Processor E-350 (1.6GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)+AMD Radeon(TM) HD 6310M Discrete-Class Graphics
• FREE Upgrade to 3GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• FREE Upgrade to 320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
• No Additional Office Software
• Norton Internet Security(TM) 2011 - 15 Month Subscription (activation required)
• 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 9.5 hours of battery life +++
• 11.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366 x 768)
• Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone
• 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
• Standard Keyboard
• HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
Believe it or not, I found a coupon already for 25 dollars off. Total cost for this system was $503.54 which includes Norton internet suite for 15 months. I could have got 4 gigs of ram for another 30 dollars but I was trying to keep it down to 500 dollars. And with the last dm1 I had for a short while, 3 gigs of ram was more than sufficient. I never saw it go over 1.6 gigs of use in the task manager. I'll report back when I get system. Whats really nice is this one even comes standard with BT.
It was a hard decision between this and the lenovo x120e and the dm1z. The reason I went with HP is they have great speakers. The X120 has ones underneath which from the reports I have read, are not as nice as HP's. I really like the matte screen on the Lenovo but I think HP has put together a bit better looking system.Toshiba Satellite P740 14" 720P display, 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, Intel HD graphics, 12 cell, BT, BD burner, Harman Kardon speakers, i5 2430M, 3 yr warranty and LED-backlit keyboard for $900.00 total.
