Can someone with a Dm1z-3020us confirm that bios F.12 still allows F10+A to access advanced Bios options?

I have a Dm1z-3200 (CTO) which comes with F.12 Bios and has Advanced Bios disabled.

I am returning the 3200 and getting a Dm1z-3020us (prebuilt), and I want to know if it will be safe for me to burn F.12 Bios once I get the unit.

    Thanks

You can still do that in the AMD Vision control center just click on it and go to the performance section and you can underclock to your hearts desire. Also I asked this a while ago but since we are able to underclock with these controls is there anybody that has been able to overclock yet? Seems to me if you can do one you should be able to do the other.

hey guys first post here but have been lurking for a while and this thread was a pretty big factor in my purchase of this device but....it's epic... (like this post) so much going on for so long now, so much so that the unit on page 1 is no longer the unit we're talking about by the time we get here, and i just saw the user above me saying he was returning his and going with the 3020us model which is the one i have on order now and should have in my hands by the end of the week. Why is that? Seems your unhappy with the bios ver? Whats the deal breaker there man?

long story short, i want my machine to be the best it can be that means yanking the stock ram out and replacing with 4x2 1333 ram to achive the maxed out 8gb instead of the factory installed 3gb

also looking for an ssd, anything special i should look for? sata type? brand?

also looks like when it comes in i need to do a fresh win install, update the video drivers ,bios, and flash, are there any other updates i'm missing out on and is there any pro's or con's to not updating the bios, a

i'm see a 50/50 split on the use of bt peripherals and functionality , got any recommendation that seem to be working out well with the internal BT ? no dongle for me please if it can be avoided, also what’s the bt profile of this, a2dp or better ?

also with regards to play back of 1080p on a large screen (60-65in) via BT or hdmi, has this issue been fixed? not streamed media but source files such as an blu-ray rip from a torrent i was reading about codec packs and stuff but that was before the last set of updates.

my main uses for my system is light gaming such as old snes games via emulator, maybe one good first person shooter such as battle field 2 or far cry 2 which ever will run better on the machine, light picture editing in cs5 or maybe even gimp if need be, changing fill lighting and colors, not heavy rendering processes like hdr imaging and such just tweaks to photo's as opposed to editing, playing videos through hdmi/bt to my tv(upon return if it makes it home, old dv9 –gaybestbuy.ver-xt from 2008 is huge!) and the normal web browsing, usually only 1 resource hog running at a time.

i understand this isn't a real laptop but from what i read it's pretty darn close
and should be able to handle my needs while i'm traveling in Asia for the next few months, any suggestions on programs or ideas to keep me happy while I’m in the jungle with my new dm1z ?

sorry for that page puke, been reading for a week now on these things and my head is swimming, being this is my first conatct with anyone on the matter it's kind of hard for me to get all of my questions out coherently, lol

    TL;DR version (sorry again)
    hi!
    my 1st post
what updates do i need, which do i not need
link to ram sticks 4gig ea
link to type of ssd, not brand but type
    best BT mouse
best game controller BT or usb
programs that would be ideal for gaming, light pic editing, video playback (i like vlc)
    ____________
sorry again for my ramblings and once up to speed i'd be happy to help the next idiot down the road.

It appears that the Dm1z-3200 has a Bios which does not allow going to advanced mode (normally with F10 + A). The Advanced Bios allows allows you finer control on your ports and peripherals, and also allows you to use HP QuickWeb.

I agree that the majority of users will never need or use the Advanced Bios, but I feel it is bad policy to restrict advanced users, and for the same amount of money and the same specs, I will go for the unit that is not locked down.

I have the built-to-order DM1Z and the Advanced bios F10+A trick does not work with the F.12 bios.

Do a fresh install. For the SSD avoid sandforce based drives. I tested 2 different sandforce drives and they caused BSOD's when waking up from sleep. I then went with the Kingston 64gb SSDnow V100. It's much faster (only because it works better with the SATA controller i guess), and it doesn't BSOD. Though I also bought 8gb of DDR3 1333, it's never going to go past 1066, so a good deal on 1066 is good enough.

The custom built-to-order DM1Z's have the mini pci-e slot for adding 3g cards or other mods. they also have a sim slot. The prebuilt models sold in stores may not have that slot.

Currently my DM1Z has the following mods:

320gb HD swapped out for 64gb Kingston SSD
3gb 1066mhz ram swapped out for 8gb Crucial 1333mhz ram
    Added a Qualcomm Gobi2000 GPS/3G card + Mini antenna

This thing is blazing now. With the fresh install, SSD and some windows tweaks, it's almost indistinguishable from my desktop for internet and office use.

The option to enable or disable quickweb is now under boot options in the bios.

Do you know if you have a 3200 or a 3000?

I have seen people report that same thing, but I do not see QuickWeb as an option under Boot Options, on my 3200-F.12

Has anyone found a good third-party car (12v DC) adapter for the DM1Z series? The HP branded one is around $76.
