If the last hpSupportAssistant doesn't show the thermal assistant in "learn" (as it didn't for me with win 7x64) try the sp 50516 at ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/.
Also on mine there was some sound clipping in foobar and media player classic (and all other players that used direct sound) so I tried wasapi (component for foobar, Reclock for media player) and now I'm happy.
Well almost... Still can't play L4D2 at a reaonable framerate.

So if youre after a gaming rig, it might seem slower, since it only has the single channel RAM it cannot cache as many things as fast.
I had a K325 neo dm1 right before the E350 dm1 came out. I returned it in December and received one of the first E350 dm1's on Jan 26. And as I recall, my initial impression at that time was the newer fusion model did not seem as snappy as the older neo. The older neo model was considerably quieter as well. But battery life suffered as well as keyboard and touchpad.

Nothing scientific here, but for me, the fusion was a bit of a let down on the performance side. But I keep the machine since it was overall a good value and the battery life was improved significantly over the k325. Also with all the updates and newer drivers I'm betting that the difference in performance is very minor at this point.

My suggestion for those wanting the dm1 is to buy it at discount and maybe upgrade the ram to 4 gigs. If you can get this at around 400 or less, its allot of machine for the money. I think some of the other manufacturers using this APU missed the price point like Sony and lenovo. I'm personally happy with mine with the basic specs and I paid 425 to get one from the first shipment.
Toshiba Satellite P740 14" 720P display, 256 SSD, 4GB RAM, Intel HD graphics, 12 cell, BT, BD burner, Harman Kardon speakers, i5 2430M, 3 yr warranty and LED-backlit keyboard for $900.00 total.

    HP HDX 18 Core2 P8700 @ 2.53Hz Windows 7 (64-bit), 4GB , NVIDIA 9600GT with 180GB INTEL 520 SSD and BD burner.

    HP DM1 LED-backlit 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and APU Zacate E-350 APU with W7 (64bit) 3GB and 120GB INTEL 520 SSD

    I beg to differ.

I owned the Acer 1410 with SU2300 and I have used several Atom netbooks. The dm1z is faster than all of these. The e350 is close to the SU2300 as far as processing power but the apu puts it far ahead for graphics performance.

What makes a big difference is formatting the hd and reinstalling the necessary software from scratch.

I'm really happy with the performance.

Agreed. Starting from scratch is the only real-world method you can use to make sure this thing hums a better tune.

i have used the intel su2300 and amd k625 prior to this e350 apu and the difference in performance is easily noticeable... the k625 was stellar, for obvious reasons, but suffered from poor battery life... compared to the su2300 [which is a better comparison], the e350 seems like an atom processor with a slight boost, per say? i've never used any form of the atom cpu before, so i cannot say for sure, but the e350 is definitely the slower of the two... if the dm1z REALLY got ~9 hours of battery life under normal usage, i can possibly get over this apu's low processing performance, but 6 hours of battery life is nothing to celebrate about in this day and age...

i will most likely be switching over to an asus transformer at the end of the month...
I have used an SU7300 extensively, in 3 different notebooks (m11x, UL80 and tm2) and the dm1z feels much snappier in every day performance than all of those. I have also used netbooks with the N550 a lot and they don't even come close to the real-world performance of my dm1.

alright guys, put down the piece pipe... j/k !

i did a clean install of windows, if that makes any difference...

anyway, i am not talking about the graphical performance here, i know the dm1z will run circles around my old acer 1410 with i-gma graphics... but that thing did play youtube clips @ 720p without any issues, which is all i really want out of a netbook's graphical performance...

i am strictly speaking about processing power... i used to be able to multitask while the windows updated... NOT with the dm1z, thing uses 100% of its' cpu power; the numbers [and the fan noise] doesn't lie... if i could trade my dm1z for an acer 1410 w/ su2300 right now i would, without any hesitation... too bad i'm waiting for the asus transformer now, to each his own, ymmv :^]

also what's up with this thing constantly changing the fan setting on its' own... i set it to the quiet mode, but it's always back to performance mode after a while... same goes for the drive guard, i turn it off, but it enables itself randomly, so every time i boot up, the first thing i do is press win + x key to make sure it's disabled... dumb piece of sh!t, so annoying

What antivirus software is everyone using with the dm1z? I've used Avast! for the last couple of years and was planning to install it on my machine.

My shipping date was moved from 4/13 to 4/22 and I was offered a coupon but I just called and the rep told me to call back on the new shipping date and they will be able to offer me a discount.
