Re: HP DM1z
There was a link many pages back to the direct download of the HP webcam software if you did a fresh install of Win7.
Also, anyone here think maybe some of us should have waited for a Llanos equipped laptop? I would like a little more "horsepower" while retaining the battery life that the dm1z offers (or at least some of it).

Re: HP DM1z
Here's my earlier post with a direct link to (and information about) the HP Mediasmart Webcam application. It's too bad HP doesn't just keep everything easily available on the support page for the DM1z!

Re: HP DM1z
Hello! I just finished reading this thread o.o...I'm thinking about switching from my 1215N to this machine, but I have a few questions for the owners out there:
1) Realistically with web browsing, word processing, and watching some Youtube videos, what can I expect from the battery?
2) Is the fan really that loud? Remember, I'm dealing with a comparison between this and the 1215N.
3) Honestly, is the touchpad and the touchpad buttons too annoying? Are the buttons giving off nice clicks? Does the touchpad feel alright? Does it get in the way of you typing?
4) The 1215N was great with 720P video but kinda iffy on 1080p, do you believe with the better CPU on the dm1z, that 1080p videos will stream better?
5) Any experience with the webcam? Is it decent enough for Skype? (I will be going to Japan later this year).
6) So I would be switching a 12.1 inch screen with a 11.6 inch screen, would it be to big of a visual difference?
Thank you in advance!

Re: HP DM1z
all of these things are subjective and you should know the different views of the owners if you've read thru the thread... for example, most people hate the clickpad and install different sw to improve it, but for me, it works just fine... not sure if you can locate one locally at a b&m store, but the best way to truly find out the answers to your questions is to see it and get some hands on time in person... other than that, all you've got is the input from the owners who've posted here...

Re: HP DM1z
Like dnaLOR mentioned, your experience with the DM1z will be entire subjective. But I'm happy to give you some answers. I received my machine at the beginning of the week.
1. You can expect at least five hours with low screen brightness and running programs that aren't graphic intensive.
2. The fan isn't loud but is noticeable. There's included software that allows the user to set the fan to the quietest mode. Even then, you'll hear the fan quietly whirring away.
3. The touchpad isn't great but works fine once you adjust.
4. You've probably read plenty of previous posts that the DM1 runs 1080P video just fine. I can confirm that for you as well. But be warned, any extended time playing high definition video will bring the fan back to life.
5. The webcam works just fine. Skype won't be a problem.
6. The screen size difference you reference is pretty negligible. I moved from a 15.4" to the 11.6". You won't notice anything. But also, this is relative. Does your current machine run 1366x768? If so, then you won't notice a thing. But if your resolution differed, then you'll have to adjust accordingly.
Hope this helps.

Re: HP DM1z
Hey guys! I reinstalled the image on my dm1, using the option for the basic install with drivers. I'm missing the Fences software. Anyone know how I can reinstall it?

Re: HP DM1z
One thing I noticed about this netbook is it's LCD. I just cleaned it with a microfiber cloth with lcd cleaning solution and voila! Theres 3 hairline scratches after cleaning. HP somewhat put el cheapo LCDs at this unit tsk tsk...
Btw, the LCD that I have is from AU Optronics (AU Optronics B116XW03 V0)Last edited by pektong; 8th April 2011 at 02:07 AM.
