Hey all - I'm ready to load a fresh install of Windows 7 on this machine but need some advice. I've got an 8 GB thumb drive so I figured I'd use that. I also have a DVD of Windows 7 Professional with valid serial number. I'm trying to decide if I should make the recovery disk(s) (can I put them on the thumb drive instead) with Recovery Manager or just use my regular Win7 disk. Are there any drivers that will be on the recovery disk image that I can't pull down from HP, AMD or where ever else? Is it just easier to have them on the thumb drive?

Referring back to your previous post, does it imply that you have problems watching videos with youtube?
    No problem at all.
Only when using safari browser, but that is a bad and slow browser to use in windows, there is a technical reason posted here...
Use chrome, firefox, ie9. They work perfect for 1080p.

I also installed 64bit version instead of the 32 bit that is sold in belgium.

As i said also, blu rays playback perfectly with my usb br player

Did you create the recovery media using the utility or just download the drivers you needed after the install?

didnt use or create any recovery media....

the hd was divided in 2 parts, one part was a 20gig recovery file (at least here in the local Belgian market, dunno for the rest of the world) and I deleted that first.
    Deleted the other partitions.

Than used a small program to create a bootable usb version of windows7 64bit and installed that directly.

Afterwards I installed all the drivers found on the HP website. I saved all those drivers on another usb stick previous to the fresh installe because I assumed you will not have internet connection after a fresh install.

And later on I removed the windows.old file wich took a lot of space on the hard disk. (so I dunno if it was a fresh install since this .old file was on there, but at least I got 64bit instead of 32bit when I bought it)

I experienced this pegged CPU usage after waking from sleep as well. In my case it was the HP Wireless Assistant that seemed to be the root cause. Having uninstalled it over a week ago I can say without a doubt it was the cause. Maybe something to at HP about for a coupon/credit.

Yes, the disable function works perfectly, I find it very easy to disable/re-enable. Its just the sluggishness when I move the cursor with 2 fingers anywhere on the touchpad at the same time. Having been used to leaving my index finger on the left click button all the time, this made moving the mouse/scrolling ugly until I learned to only use 1 finger at a time. And I am on the newest touchpad driver. Have not tried the mod though.

Thats beautiful, you changed the configuration, and cant get it right, so youre screwing the people that made it. Especially when its as simple a thing as tapping the power button before closing the lid.

Brand new drivers, try them out!

aaight, I got myself a blue screen
    First time ever...

I installed the new AMD software + drivers for the display and than I testwatched 2 blu rays (UP and Avatar, so heavy movies)
After a long time of viewing I noticed a recurring issue of the flashing horizontal lines so I deceided to reboot it.
Then when it was booted I wanted to enter a map on my dekstop to open a Word file (because that is when I usually see the lines) thats when I got a blue screen!!

So, dunno if I should reinstall the older official drivers + catalyst or take a chance with this and hope it was a one time issue?

Performance should be the same. I believe both of those use the E-350 zacate APU. But so far, I have not seen any manufacture integrate the E-350 as successful has HP and the DM1. Sony's YB uses a smaller battery, has worse speakers and less battery life and it costs considerably more. Lenovo also charges allot more for the extended battery and E-350 and runs about 7 degrees hotter which is a big deal in my book. It also has downfiring speakers which is a complete deal killer for me. People need to remember that mid and high frequency sound waves are VERY directional.

Every manufacture builds good and bad models. No one manufacture hits a home run every time. IMO, the dm1 is a incredibly well designed model that maximizes the strenghts of what AMD was trying to deliver with AMD's APU. This is one of HP's finer moments and is one of their "Good ones"
