Default HP Pavilion dv2000 No Backlight Issue (dv2617us)

When I boot, screen comes on for a few seconds, long enough to display "hit esc to..." ,at boot, and then no backlight. You can see it booting if you hold a flashlight to the screen. laptop runs fine, except no backlight.

    - Replaced Inverter (New)
    - Removed and Reinserted all componants (hard rive, memory, dvd, battery, etc)
    - Tested with & without battery.
    - Tested battery only
    - Tested safemode & normal
    - Hooked up external monitor w/ some success

Results of external monitor test: Tested as single notebook display, single monitor display, dual w/ notebook as main and monitor as 2nd, & dual w/ monitor as main and notebook as 2nd.
    ALL WITH SAME RESULTS
    - Notebook screen would come on for a few seconds, then no backlight.
    - If set to dual or monitor as main - Notebook comes on for a few seconds, then as welcome screen the external monitor does come on. So no backlight, but external monitor stays on and keeps working normal. External monitor only comes on at welcome screen (think normal)
Just no backlight on notebook screen. But you can see everyting if you shine a light on it.

    Current Specs:
    - HP dv2000 (dv2617us)
    - Vista Home Premium 32 bit
    - 2GB Memory

To sum this up, no backlight on notebook, but external monitor works just fine. Already replaced inverter.

    Any advice?

    Quick update:

Will all the testing I have done, I do believe it to be the backlights.
I have decided to just buy a new panel, as the cost of backlights plus labor are about the same as a new panel.
    - Backlights being around $25-$30 w/ shipping. A new panel was $90.
    - This also solves a scratch/nick that was in the screen.

Thx for reading my post guys.

    Thx, appreciate the 2nd opinion.

I disconnected the lid switch to prevent this from being the issue. I read many posts talking about the lid switch. Couple simple questions on this type issue:
    - Disconnecting the lid switch, does it prevent the screen from staying on?
    - I read hooking up a 9 volt battery to a backlight, lights it up. Is this true/safe? If I had an easy tester for backlights... I'll have to do some homework.

Update: The backlight did fix the issue. (New screen)

    - I left the lid swtich disconnected. It did not prevent the screen from lighting up, awesome.
    - Still didn't try a 9 volt on the backlight for testing it.
