With the 2.66GHz C2D and nVIDIA G105M this model has exactly the same performance as the dv4t I took a look at here: First Impressions - HP dv4t

Would I go for the dv3t over the dv4t? Hmmm, lets see:

PROS: dv3 is the smallest HP notebook with a built-in optical drive
PROS: It's only slightly smaller and lighter than the dv4t

CONS: the dv3t doesn't provide a 12-cell battery option - the dv4t does.
CONS: the dv3t doesn't let me swap the optical drive for a 2nd hard drive - the dv4t does.
CONS: the dv3t doesn't have the xb4 docking station connector - the dv4t does.
CONS: the dv3t doesn't have the built-in TV tuner and modem - the dv4t does.
CONS: the dv3t only has an Express Card 34 slot - the dv4t has an Express Card 54 slot.

For maximum battery run-time on a single charge - the dv4t with 25W CPU, LED display, integrated graphics and 12-cell battery is still the champion. Considering the sacrifice in features, I'd say the dv4t is better equipped and still the better choice for many.

But if I had to walk around all day and lug one in my hand without a case or notebook bag, I'd pick the dv3t with the 6-cell in place of the dv4t with 12-cell. And if you carry a spare 9-cell with you, the dv3t will run somewhat longer than the dv4t does with one 12-cell. Food for thought.

Regarding the battery life, I think the DV3 with the 9-cell will last longer than the DV4 with the 12? I mean, at least according to HP...

Don't forget it has a backlit keyboard and the LED/Infinity display. To a guy who loves shiny things, those are pretty big.

I am going to end up getting the DV4, primarily due to the inclusion of the expansion port 3 and the ability to use a 2nd hard drive, as I am eventually going to be getting an SSD and want to have the extra storage...

But man, that backlit keyboard and led/infinity screen are really really making this hard on me... lol.

i put my money on the 12 cell dv4t

the screen size difference is not that much to make a big impact, so the three extra cells (12 vs 9) would definitely make dv4t last longer.

This laptop looks awesome- hopefully it'll be available in Canada. But I'm a bit confused about the backlit keyboard. Everything seems to indicate that it has one, but I was configuring one on the hp shopping website and the only keyboard option was the regular HP Color Matching Keyboard. Is the backlit keyboard standard with all or just not currently available from the hp shopping website?

With the forth coming Windows 7 I don't understand why HP didn't put in a touch screen.

I tried both colours, but neither seem to have the backlit keyboard option on the hp shopping US website. HP canada doesn't even have the computer listed yet.
