Default Re: HP DV3T hits the HP site!

This is the second time I write this, I managed to press some combination of keys that erased it and all mention of it. I am now using my trusty Notepad, which I find to be the most powerful little piece of software ever compiled.

Alright.

I would take Kloves word for it. It's actually not surprising at all. For instance, they list the DV3 as having Expansion Port 3, which it most certainly does not. Heck, I even contacted HP Customer Service and alerted them to the issue, even went so far as to point out the fact that it after examining the pictures of it, there is absolutely no EP3. They replied assuring me it does have the port to which I replied asking them where exactly on the laptop it's located. They told me that they could not find it themselves on the laptop, but wanted to assure me that it does in fact include the port. If it's not on the right bezel nor on the left bezel and it cannot be on the back nor the front, where in the heck is it? Hidden? It simply does not have the port and it's just another typical example of HP getting their facts mixed up. Even when confronted with a mistake they don't fix it nor admit it.

I remember reading a press release that it would have 1366x768, so initially when I checked it out on their website I was surprised to see it listed at 1280x800... Kloves confirmed my suspicion. Again, you can be 99.99% sure it's resolution is 1366x768.

The backlit keyboard option is actually pretty funny. I had emailed HP Customer Service wondering if the DV4 would include that as an option and they replied telling me that they will offer it when they get a new shipment of boards in, apparently there was some shortage. I let them know that the DV4 has never offered the backlit option, so were they talking about? I think they got confused with the DV3. So, it's very possible that there is just a shortage of parts. It's odd that they completely removed it from the website, first time I saw them do something like that, they don't even remove components that laptops don't have! I honestly don't know. But well, let's just say I wouldn't count on it. Besides, odds are you could purchase the backlit keyboard at a later time from HP PartSurfer or other various part vendors. This is just speculation but... either way, I wouldn't hold your breath.

This is the best approximation of how the DV3T would look with the 9-cell:
http://www.laptopmag.com/review/newg...id=28325&img=7
That's the 9-cell on the DV3Z, which is actually thinner than the DV3T for some odd reason.
Check out the gallery for more images.

If you're not gaming, you would be doing yourself a disservice by purchasing the Nvidia dedicated solution. It will decrease your battery life and produce more heat in your laptop. Aero and HD playback will be just fine with the 4500MHD, which has the ability to decode HD movies, hence the HD moniker. Aero will be just fine too, really doesn't take much to run Aero. Again, if you're not gaming, stick with the 4500MHD. It will handle light gaming just fine too, actually been surprised with some of the titles people can run it, granted at low quality.... but still playable.

Here is a thread about the HD decoding ability in Win7 with the 4500MHD:
Intel GMA 4500MHD & Windows 7 - Finally, H.264 Hardware Video Acceleration???

An extra tidbit, I would recommend you purchase a P series Intel CPU (P8600/P8700)- they run cooler and give longer battery life and will tide you better well into the future than the T series CPUs.

Sorry if some parts don't make sense, I wrote it again as fast as I could out of sheer annoyance.... lol.

lol i guess making my own thread for my questions was not a good idea when the center of the dv3t info is here so uhhh here's what was in it:

Hello
So I've been debating between the Sony SR290 and the HP DV3t and have decided (im pretty sure) on the hp dv3t. Just a few questions:

1) Should I buy it now while I still have a chance to save $400+ with that coupon code flying around? Or should I wait for more reviews to come out...and is there a better buying period later in the year? (one thing i should note is that the coupon code was more effective in lowering the price than the rebates plus the student discount )

My initial impression was that the dv3t was an awesome machine but digging deeper into hp has made me skeptical about their quality...(which is why i purchased a 2-year plan thingy)

2) can anyone with the dv3t tell me about the noise it makes (if any) and the heat issue? Also if you happen to have upgraded to the nvidia card, 4gb of ram, and p8700 processor could you post the results of benchmarks and windows experience index?

I know its asking a lot, but any help would be greatly appreciated!

right now I'm keeping an eye on this thread. I'm possibly considering the dv3t.
Just a quick question, are the graphics switchable? If so can it be switched while running?

Someone needs to write a review! thanks for all the info dv3t owners

lol someone really does need to write a review. i feel like all my questions would be answered since not one review exists on the internet. even the reviews on the hp site for the dv3t were rating only -_- . oh well i'm waiting to buy one anyway. hopefully it doesnt disappear like the dv3z did all of a sudden o.o

Mine was supposed to be:

*Espresso Black
*Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
*Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7450 (2.13GHz)
I got just right on the "P" series for its 25watts power consumption.
*4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
*320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
*512MB NVIDIA GeForce G 105M
*13.3" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED BrightView Infinity Widescreen Display..its small so I'd rather make it as beautiful as can be.
*LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
*[For BrightView Infinity Display] Webcam Only..because i don't want to pay $25 for fingerprint reader just for convenience on quite an easy task on writing username and password.
*Wireless-G Card with Bluetooth...got this one because it's not merely for convenience sake unlike fingerprint reader...IMO
*6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery...i always have with me the charger so no problem.

TOTAL = $1004.99 LESS 30% $704.99 after using the 30% coupon

Unfortunately, I was not happy with the shipping company that i contacted to. I canceled it after they told me that HP.com does not have a code bar wherein which to enter the coupon code (??).

They are to charge me as if no coupon can be use, offered me to buy on Bestbuy (laptop that cost $899). Later, I insisted that they enter it and purportedly called HP (at 11:30 close midnight) after less than 5 minutes they were told that the coupon cannot be used (even before it has expired and before 2,500 redeemers, cause if it had HP's website should have notes rejecting upon entering the coupon) instead HP customer service will give me a discount commemorating US Memorial Day on Saturday March 16, 2009(??). At first they gave me $822 telling me that they can now use the CODE (Have they just called HP and were told that it can no longer be used?) , including sales tax on New Jersey (for which they told me that New Jersey does not charge sales tax on them, yes quite inconsistent).

I asked the Shipping company what is the end price when using the code and told me that it is just $45 more than the price i told them which is $704.99 ,hence, $749.99 exempting me from sales tax. I canceled it because i don't want to believe them (the verified shipping co.'s agent). I don't know if they are telling me the truth but i just can't trust them after all their inconsistencies.

I wanted to know the base price because they are charging me 10% off the laptop payable price. not including another 10% on the agent i was talking to.

Nevertheless i'll wait for another coupon. I was planning to write a review for you guys but got *%*^. LOL

Firstly, thanks for all the information, but I still have a few quick questions that haven't been completely answered yet. Kloves2fly, you mentioned that your dv3t has shipped with a 1366X768 resolution LED screen rather than the 1280x800 that is listed on the website. Can anyone else who received their laptop confirm this? Its just surprising that HP would let this mistake go for so long on their website.

....

Also, does anyone have any pics of the 9-cell battery?
......
Finally, is there any non-gaming disadvantages with the integrated graphic chip. I do not plan to play any 3d-intensive games, so I do not think I need the $150 upgrade. However, I just wanted to make sure that the integrated chip handles the graphical parts of the operating system the same (windows aero, HD video playback, etc.) Are there any performance setbacks compared to the Nvidia chip in these regards? I would be more than happy to save the $150, also I assume that i would get a little boost in battery life by sticking with the integrated chip?
....
just to allay any doubts here is a screenshot of the specs on my dv3t, i had to rotate the screen so i could fit in all the info . as you can see i circled the resolution in red. and by the way to avoid any confusions the screen itself is NOT an LED screen per se, it is a TFT (i think) screen that is backlit with an LED array. the actual pixels themselves are not LED, this might be one of the reasons the screen has such a small viewing angle.

....

nu_D already posted a link to what the laptop would like with a 9 cell battery but here is a photo of just the battery from the HP accessory site.

....

the integrated chip should handle non-gaming tasks such as browsing, HD video playback, windows aero etc pretty well so you should be fine. the only thing to worry about would be GPU intensive tasks such as gaming.

yes, you will get a boost in battery life but i do not think it is going to be significant maybe like 25 min to 30min extra. on a high capacity 6 cell.

speaking from experience dealing with HP customer support is a waste of time and technically it is not their fault, it is the fault of some higher department that deals with specifications and information on their products somebody higher up is not doing their job so it makes customer support look stupid. granted they are kinda stupid 'cos they just zombies anyway, 98% of them only know what their computer screen tells them and they have been trained to believe everything the screen says. someone needs to get fired.

.....

i checked the HP parts store and the backlit keyboard option is missing for the dv3t but it is there for the dv3z but it is listed as out of stock which leads me to believe that there is indeed a shortage of parts.

.....

nu_D, i am not sure if you meant the dv3z is thinner than the dv3t but i have been to bestbuy and compared both and they are same size and i must say the dv3t is way nicer.

.....

i totally agree with you on the integrated graphics vs nvidia but i must say that if you combine the G105M with the P series processor (I dont know about T-series), there is little to no heat produced from the dv3t and i use this laptop on a bed and a rug which block the vents. with my old laptop this produced extreme heat (almost scalding) but now i am just amazed at how there is almost no heat. the better hard drive also helps.

.....

again i totally agree with you about the P-series cpu, its the best decision, i have ever made.

there is absolutely no heat issue with the dv3t, at least in my case. the fan makes almost no noise and you have to be in a very quiet place to hear it but it is not disturbing. i have the nvidia with 3GB of RAM but i can't really get the benchmarks to run properly, i think i might be doing something wrong. in this post at the top i have a screenshot of my WEI (Windows Experience Index)

i wanted to write a review but since the benchmarks dont work i dont think it will make any sense to but if anyone can help me in getting them running i will appreciate it 'cos i have never run a benchmark before lol.

I was going to order this or the DV2z. According to the HP site shipping is 'FREE' Prices are dropping and Costco is running neck to neck with HP but Costco has the 2 year warranty.

hey guys. my notebook got in last night. here are some first impressions.

first off, the build quality on this is great, much better than expected. also, the 9 cell battery is much smaller than the one in the pics on this thread. i'll post pics when i get a chance.

Also, this laptop comes with a 2-year warranty according to the literature included in the box. One more thing hp's website messed up.

the one thing which has me about to pull my hair out though is the bloatware. i've NEVER seen so much bloatware on a pc. it was so bad that out of the box it wouldn't connect to windows update and i eventually got a bsod. after going through the recovery partition i got it working but it wasn't easy. i wish i had access to a vista disk and i'd just reinstall.
