Re: The *OFFICIAL* HP dv5t Owner's Lounge
To upgrade to 8 gb ram wouldn't you need two 4gb sticks of ram? Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, if that's the case the 4gb ram sticks are pretty hard to find and are very expensive.Lastly. is it possible to put 4 2gb sticks(much cheaper) in the HP dv5t???

Re: The *OFFICIAL* HP dv5t Owner's Lounge
I don't believe that's possible, only two slots I believe.
Chaz: I noticed you posted in the "Clean install..." thread and frequently post here, so i thought I'd ask here if you had any tips on doing the clean install with your DV5t following the guide in these forums. Or was it pretty straight forward just as the guide describes? Also, what Vista disc did you use for it? I should have ordered the disc with my purchase and didn't think to do it....

Re: The *OFFICIAL* HP dv5t Owner's Lounge
Order Dates and expected "finish build dates" and delivery/ship dates, please:
may i ask what the recent experience has been of the participants of this thread?
=================================
Date Ordered on hp.com
Expect "finish build date" shown AT TIME of ordering
Changed "finish build date" as time went on
Final "Shipped Out" Date
Date of Actual Receipt of dv5t
==================================
Hope at least some folks are kind enough to provide some of this info
the excitement of the wait and feeling bummed that the wait time is so long is unbearable :P
so, please help me out with the abovementioned info. thx!

Re: The *OFFICIAL* HP dv5t Owner's Lounge
Hi all,
So I have two sets of memory to get rid of. They are both 4gb sets composed of two 2gb sticks. One set is 800mhz for dv4 5 and 7 series, the other is 667mhz for all older laptops. The 800mhz memory is genuine hp stuff taken out of a new machine. The 667mhz is Crucial brand. Private message me if you have any interest. Will go to highest offers. If this is not where I should post this, someone let me know. Thanks

Re: The *OFFICIAL* HP dv5t Owner's Lounge
What i meant in my previous post was that I was wondering whether it is possible to upgrade to 8GB with the dv5t (in the future)... does the P45 mobile chipset support that much memory?
EDIT: OK, just done skimming through Intel's PM45 datasheets and heres what I've discovered:
- The PM45 chipset supports 8 GB of either DDR2 or DDR3
- Full support for asymmetric memory access, that means that you shoud not worry about buying 3GB systems.
- One curious detail is that Intel doesn't state that a given motherboard supports DDR2 OR DDR3. Does that mean that unless the DIMMs are physically different, modules could be switched when the time is right and the price is low?Last edited by Osiris665; 11th August 2008 at 04:17 PM.
