re: *OFFICIAL: HP dv5t Gen 1 Owners Lounge*
Hi!
I don't know if my computer runs hotter than it should, so I checked my temps on idle -
GPU - 52C
CPU - 42-46C
motherboard - 51C
is this considered high?
I have P8400 and my gpu is 9600M GT
Thanks!
Tal

re: *OFFICIAL: HP dv5t Gen 1 Owners Lounge*
With a T5800, undervolt + NB cooler don't help much IMO. The only way to keep the heat down is MX-2 apply directly to the heatsink, the thermal paste that HP used is really cheap and it solidify after a short time. So applying MX-2 shave off a great deal of heat but u also need to remove a ****load of screws. After apply MX-2, my T5800 lower from a 82C to 65C on load.

re: *OFFICIAL: HP dv5t Gen 1 Owners Lounge*
I have a dv5-1017nr laptop with 1280 resolution. I want to upgrade to 1680.
For the owners of the dv5 laptops with 1680 resolution, is your screen matte or glossy finish? When I order a new screen, there is the matte or glossy finish option. Which one is better?

I have the 1680 Gloss finish it is very nice some people say its to reflective tho. While it seems really reflective/shiny when you first get it you get use to it and it just seems nice. atleast for me aha

re: *OFFICIAL: HP dv5t Gen 1 Owners Lounge*
I have a question for people who have disassembled the dv5t. Is there a thermal pad on the cpu and gpu or just thermal paste? I want to replace the compound on the cpu and gpu but only have thermal paste and i dont want to open the laptop only to find out i need to get a thermal pad.

re: *OFFICIAL: HP dv5t Gen 1 Owners Lounge*
I would definitely go to Best Buy (or some other store) and take a good look for myself at the difference in the screens. I absolutely hated glossy screens before I got my dv5t, and I still get a little frustrated with the reflections (although I've learned to tip my screen down to avoid most of them), but I really love it now, and am glad that I ended up with the glossy screen. Wouldn't want the Infinity display though - way, way too glossy and reflective!
By the way, are you sure your dv5 comes with both glossy and matte screens? I didn't have that option when I bought my dv5t in December -- and at that time I searched everywhere for a matte finish.HP dv5t ~Vista 64 bit ~ T9400 2.53 GHz ~ 15.4 WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 ~ 4GB DDR2 ~ 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT ~ 320GB 5400RPM ~ Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card w/Bluetooth ~ Blu-Ray ROM DVD+/-R/RW ~ Integ. Do you know what I think hell is like? I think hell must be like taking apart DV5T's and putting them back together for all eternity.
GPU temperatures only seem to be about 2 or 3C lower after removing and re-applying heat-gunk.Last edited by Eason; 23rd May 2009 at 07:27 AM.
