Hi all, I was able to get 3DMark06 to run at 1280 x 800 and guess what... 4599 woo hoo. I think the mystery is solved. Now I want to see what bloat ware I can get rid of to push it over 4600. I am starting to think I should have stuck with this processor after all. Will be interesting when the P8600 shows up to see how the benchmark changes. I suppose I could switch out processors....hmmmm. Anyway, off to bed. Good night and talk with ya all in the morning. Hasta

Well, after my first call with HP, they told me that they were shipping me a new keyboard, which turned out to be false...not that I'm surprised' it didn't seem right to me that they were going to do that. Anyway, they're going to replace the notebook so that it hopefully will have an U.S. keyboard instead of a French one They think it should arrive around August 17th...which is going to push it since I'm leaving for school on the 19th. I hope they're on time.

I'm using a Logitech V470 Bluetooth mouse and have not had any problems with the errors other people have been reporting. Sorry that I can't help much.

From the t8600 to the t9600 you are probably getting 250-300 benchmarks more! The t9600 2.8ghz is one of the fastest cpu's you can get in a notebook. Its also good to hear the 64 bit wasnt lowering your benchmark #'s.

All right, so I'm basically selling my current zv6000 and getting an Asus EEE 4g with the instant rebate money from the dv5t and the money from this. I was wondering like...I'm getting 3gb of ram with the dv5t. So basically it's gonna come in a 2gb stick and a 1gb stick. I was wondering if i could just buy a 2gb stick of memory online and if it could work in conjunction with the 2gb memory that came with the HP to begin with. If this would work, I would then try to put the 1gb stick into the Asus and I'm wondering if that would be compatible as well.
The 2 gb memory that comes with the computer is in 2 DIMMs, so you'll need 2 new sticks of 2 gb memory for 4gb memory, and yes, the asus eee memory should fit.

ok i'm about to order hp dv5t within a week.. and i'm still wondering should i

    get 32 bit(compatibility) vs 64 bit vista(to take full 4gb advantage?) and

p8600(2.4ghz) or t9400(2.53ghz)? because i heard about benchmark and

heat problem and so on... and 1280x800 infinity or 1680x1050 infinity??

lastly should i get zalman nc1000 in case or overheating...??

srry that i have too much question but it's my first laptop so i'll be glad if you

    1) Consensus seems to be that 64 bit is good at this point.
    2) What will you be using your computer for? For most people the P8600 will be more than they will need.
    3) If your eyes are bad then probably 1280x800; if they are good and you like more desktop space, then 1680x1050. I personally like the latter...
    4) For normal operation, I don't think you need to worry about the heat. If you are playing some demanding games, the NC1000 could not hurt. That said; I think that on post 244 on this thread, Chaz demonstrates that a minor adjustment keeps the temperatures at an acceptable level.

Good luck...looks like this will be my new lappy as well.

You should be able to get 3 years out of a laptop. If you plan on traveling with it a lot, that will decrease its life some. HP's consumer line certainly is not the most well made but it is far from the worst. The dv5t has a lot of bang for the buck.

I'd go to Best Buy to take a look at the Infinity Display to see for yourself.
