I'm surprised no one has mentioned the new $200 coupon. The "Laptop Deals" tab on this seems to stay pretty current: http://www.notebookreview.com/deals/

Vista 64 problems: not supported by Cisco VPN client, and I was having trouble with it recognizing my old Palm device.

After verifying on the phone that there would be no problem with an exchange (exchanging for a 32 bt OS), I sent in my 15-day old laptop. It arrived yesterday, but my order status still shows return incomplete. Calling today, I am told that the process failed because they couldn't apply the $400 in price adjustments that I was promised to the new laptop. They didn't call me to tell me there was a problem, I had to check my order status and see they weren't processing my exchange. And that they are trying to charge me full price for the new one, but only refunding the adjusted price for the old one. I spent 90 minutes on the phone today and was told that they would take care of it. not much faith left.

As I posted earlier in this thread, I use a 3D intensive screen saver to monitor my temps. I was hitting high 80's to low 90's on the GPU. I used the same screen saver on battery, and the temps didn't go above 70. During normal use, all the temps seemed incredibly cool (low 40's for CPU, low 50's for GPU). Does the GPU step itself down when on battery (even when I use 'High Performance' on the power settings, with 100% of the CPU being utilized)?

I don't play games all that often, but I was still worried about heat. With low temps on battery, I feel much better.

BTW, I got the screen savers from www.reallyslick.com - the 'Lattice' was the one I found to stress the GPU the most.
You sure it was lattice? My comp was running it for 20 minutes and the GPU didn't go over 66.

    Sweet thanks!

< On hold with HP right now to see if they can apply this to my order which has not shipped yet.

Think I'll get any trouble trying to apply it to my order?

edit- they are telling me that I cannot apply this to my order, which has not shipped yet... and I cannot cancel my order. HAHA

edit 2- got the $200 credit. They said they could not add the coupon, but would credit me 100... then I told them no, put on hold, then they told me 150... I told them no again, then got the full $200

Good news that mine has departed from Alaska Fedex and get my $80 back from HP about the 2GB -3GB ram issue. Thanks God.

    Hey everyone -

A quick question re: your dv5t... trying to find out if my brand new one (arrived yesterday!) is unusual.

The front of the computer has a thin silver trim piece, running from side to side, just below the silver piece that wraps around the entire handrest. One end of the this trim piece has the three little LEDs for power, charging, etc. The other side runs above the headphone jacks and around to the optical drive door.

My trim piece on the left side, near the little LED squares, is loose. Not falling-off-loose, but loose enough to "click" when you tap it or knock it. I'm not trying to be obsessive about these things, but I'm a little annoyed that the computer arrived with a loose part like this.

Wondering if they all do this, and if I can take it apart and try to tighten it myself, or if this is a "live with it or return it" type of thing.

Just figured I'd ask. Anyone have thoughts?

    EDIT - second question -
Also, it seems like a lot of people are getting money back on their purchase somehow. I bought mine with the 30% off coupon, which was not stackable with anything else. I bought the day before the 2GB offer switched to 3GB, as well. How would I go about trying to get "more" out of HP - do I just call and say, I noticed that you now offer this 200$ off coupon, and I want some of that too? And I want a credit for missing out on the 3GB thing? I'm a little clueless on how you guys actually did this. Feel free to send me a private message if that's easier.

    Thanks.

Anyone know where the heck the built-in microphone is located? It's amazingly decent quality but I swear I can't find it.

There's definitely a built-in mic somewhere... I'm using it right now.

And yeah I think that's it next to the webcam

I have the exact same issue, except mine clicks on the right side near the input jacks, which sucks since that is just where I rest my hand. I guess we'll have to learn to live with it.

Oh and this laptop is great, just 2 days since I got it and so far so good.
