Re: The *OFFICIAL* HP dv5t Owner's Lounge
Pheew, thanks for everyone that posted in this thread, especially the ones who offered coupon codes (the 400 off one!). Extremely helpful forum that eased my transition into buying my very first laptop.
Here are the specs on the newborn that I just ordered:
HP Pavilion Entertainment dv5t customizable Notebook PC
* Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
* Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26 GHz)
* 15.4" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1280 x 800)
* 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
* 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
* FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
* Webcam Only
* HP Color Matching Keyboard
* FREE Upgrade to Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN from 802.11b/g WLAN
* No High speed 56K modem port
* SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
* No TV Tuner w/remote control
* High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
* Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
* HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
+1 year extended warranty
All of this for only $1,132.49. I know that this is a good deal from various researching done before I purchased it.
Thanks guys! I hope it comes not too later than on the 25th because that's when school starts for me.

Re: The *OFFICIAL* HP dv5t Owner's Lounge
I got the dv5t with 2.4 ghz, the 9600 nvidia card, and 3gb or ram, with the regular non-litescribe DVD R/Rw drive, and i don't think the issue with it not reading CD's is Vista related, because it works on my desktop, which also has Vista. Do some DVD drives not read certain CD's?

Re: The *OFFICIAL* HP dv5t Owner's Lounge
i wonder why hp doesn't "take a page" from Dell and learn from them? i mean dell.com's highly graphical time line showing buyers the stage at which their purchase is at, i.e. selecting components, assembly, testing, boxing/packing, shipping...
my "expect built date" when i ordered last week was shown as 8/19th and the wait is a real bummer. i didn't want to pay more for shipping so i just took the standard free shipping. from everything i read from the other contributors here on this thread, i think hp is delivering these around the 10th day after order date, that is, it shows up at the delivery address at roughly the 10th day.
sigh... so impatient
don't they realize that people want instant gratification in the summer of 2008?

Re: The *OFFICIAL* HP dv5t Owner's Lounge
I called HP and got 100 dollars back with there price guarantee and they said in order for me to qualify for the 400 dollar coupon I would of had to of spent 1299 dollars but since I didnt they would only give me 100 because I called.
Your need to be the smartest person in the room is very off-putting.
