Installing Windows XP on the Intel based dvx500t Series

Hello everyone, this is my first post in this forum. First of all thanks for this very detailed guide, this guide made me order my new laptop, knowing that XP is compatible. So, tomorrow I will be laying my hands on a brand new dv9542ev. My question is simple, is this guide fully working for this model, or will I have to do something extra ? The video card is an 8600 so I am wondering if there are drivers out there for this specific model. Is everything working super-fine (WLAN,cameras etc) ? (I have dowloaded all the driver packs, plus the ones I could find @ HP) Is the remote control accesible under XP?

Secondly, I have to say that this policy from both microsoft and vendors is ridiculous. There has been a new conviction from the European Court again for microsoft, but they insist on their unfair game. Here, in Greece, the shops insist on telling you stupid things, like "you will lose your guarantee if you install XP" or "santa rosa is not XP compatible"...I bet that most stores worldwide will tell their customers similar lies...So, again thanks for people like you that help us overcome the global policies, and make us free to work with our hard-earned hardware AS WE LIKE !

I purchased an hp dv9535nr notebook, and this guide WORKED! Thank you very much for creating it. A couple of issues, though:

-HP tech support was stubborn to admit that it could be done, but they caved! They actually e-mailed me saying "customer satisfaction is a priority, so here's how to do it." Basically they then just listed steps on how to download SATA drivers from a floppy. The official HP driver page for the dv9535nr is lacking almost everything though. They really are trying to make it difficult.

-Ultimately I decided to slipstream the SATA drivers onto the CD. The HP-recommended chipset drivers did not work. The ones mentioned in this forum did.

Many thanks to Hackez for downloading and zipping all those drivers; however, there are some discrepancies:
-There is an authorized 8400 and 8600 GeForce driver which should probably be included instead of the ones from TweakGuide.
-The steps provided in Hackez's readme differ significantly from the ones in this forum after the first few. I ultimately couldn't follow either one exactly to a T, because my laptop does not have bluetooth.

The only problem that resulted after my installation was that the computer did not recognize my USB ports. I solved this by opening the Device Manager, uninstalling everything in the USB Devices section, then clicking "scan for changes" and reinstalling them.

I believe the correct driver for the 8400 and 8600 is the nVIDIA ForceWare GeForce Go 101.34. That's what I'm using on my dv9535nr.

First off,

My Driver Pack was made specifically with the DV9500T Laptop in mind. This includes the DV95XX Series because normally Laptops of the same series, in this case the DV95XX Series contain the same hardware. In my upcoming Driver Pack (Revision 1.1) I will release a disclaimer that states the above.

However, even if you don't have a DV95XX Series Laptop, 60%-80% of the drivers included in my pack will work for you. All you have to do is find the missing ones. (It seems the majority of people are having issues with the Audio Drivers and Touchpad Drivers. This is because they are different between the DV2500, DV6500 and DV9500 Series.)

The driver installation Guide included in my Driver Pack (Revision 1.0) is very easy to follow, if you don't have Bluetooth simply skip that step, not difficult by any means. The reason the installation order in my Guide differs from the forum post is because the order I used is the correct method, whereas this Guide did them slightly out of order which can cause issues. (In this case, a few of the steps in the Guide provided can be completely skipped if you had installed it in the order I have in my Driver Pack)

I will have to reformat my Laptop this coming week, provided HP gets it here tomorrow. I will update the screenshots and the install order so my Driver Pack and this Guide are perfectly fluid, time permitting as I have College and other affairs to attend to. (Tomorrow is the scheduled delivery date, but backorders and such can push those dates back. For those whom are curious I sent it in for repairs due to some keyboard issues.)

As far as the Nvidia Drivers, as of today you should be using the 163.71 Driver, any other driver, especially if they are not a 163.xx Driver can result in severe instability and issues with all graphic applications. This is because the Nvidia 8 Series of GPU's are still under heavy development with regards to the Driver Platform, so you should attempt to keep them updated at all times!

Furthermore, TweakForce (XTreme-G) Drivers have no downside whatsoever, they are actually scanned over by a few professionals who dedicate their time to iron out any issues/bugs Nvidia missed. They are also tweaked with the individual user in mind, improving performance and image quality by as much as 10%. (With no downside as mentioned above.) Nvidia doesn't even support Laptop Drivers, so you cannot obtain the drivers directly from them. (At the very least you have to grab a modded INF from a website such as www.laptopvideo2go.com) If you do not feel comfortable using the improved drivers I provide, please obtain the latest official ones from Nvidia and a Modded INF. However, I refuse to include sub-standard drivers in my Driver Pack, in short if TweakForce Drivers are out and stable I will include them. (I test them in over 20 games to ensure they are indeed better than the stock ones before recommending/using them)

Please do not send me PM's asking for me to find missing drivers for a different series of Laptop, you will have to find them yourself. I would love to help answer any questions you may have, but I will not dedicate my time to find drivers that are relatively easy to find. Simply using google will normally reveal the drivers you need.

If someone who owns a DV2500 or DV6500 wants to pack the extra drivers that those specific users need we would be more than happy to include them in this Guide.

Finally, I apologize if my tone seems disrespectful in any way. To be honest this is just the way I write. (I have had people take my comments the wrong way in the past, so for this informative post I have decided to include this)

Yes, that is the identical system to the one I am using. So you shouldn't have any issues! =)

you will have to download them from the link in the Original Post. i have no idea how you even installed XP on a x500 series laptop without downloading the drivers that were provided. im guessing you have the x000 series. follow the guide.

someone else from greece have had some minor trouble... probably because this guide was intended for american versions of this laptop. there are some differences between different nations... it has to do with laws, copyrights, etc. but this guide should work 99% and all of the drivers should work for you. you might need to get an extra driver or two.

yes i hate how all these companies and organizations are suing MS as well.

btw, Santa Rosa IS XP compatible.... what they should say instead is that XP is not supported by the company

hmm, i have no idea why your USB ports didnt work at first. also, dont call hp and ask them if you can install XP or not... it just adds more stress to you because you will argue with them, and it will waste time that you need to actually get XP and the drivers installed. as you can see from the posts and your own experience, it works

Do I need to install additional drivers for the microphone to work? Or does that only work for the webcam?

the microphone should work after installing the audio drivers. however, at this time the microphone's sensitivity is too low.

All the stuff was successfully installed and the mobile is very fast!
Also in system properties-General-Computer i see that:
core 2 duo t7300 2.00 Ghz
768Ghz, 2Gb memory

What is the 768Ghz?

it looks like your hardware is different than US versions. maybe your version of XP does not support PnP (Plug and Play). i dont even have that list in my Device Manager, so it might be europe-only or even greece-only. try to find a 'serial" driver for your laptop... "serial" could also be a fingerprint reader, do you have one?

the 768MHz (not GHz... ) is the current speed of your processor. these processors work at a slower clock to save battery. as demand increases, the clock speed will also increase.
