I assume everyone knows the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro is effective 6/2/12 at a cost of $14.99. You can only add your name to a notification list at this time but a purchase now will be valid for the upgrade.

33% Coupon "NBG5247" and Win 8 Pro for $15. Not bad.

Here is the link to put your name on the notification list if anyone is interested. All you give is name and Email and Microsoft will email you when program registration begins.

Hi I've been stalking this and the Envy 15 thread for ages and I'm pretty much settled on the 17inch with the bigger screen and better spec for games.

Can someone confirm for me whether the red-orange defect occurs on the Envy 17? To my understanding it's just the Envy 15's that's had this problem but I'm not 100%.

The Envy 15's IPS is the only screen with the defect.

IIRC the Envy 17 doesn't come with a IPS but a very good 72% gamut TN screen.

I returned my Pavillion and is getting ready to order the Envy 17. I just want some clarification on what HP term:

    "750G 7200 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive +$10.00"

its the seagate hybrid drive... it has a small ssd cache where the stuff u use most often is stored so than u get faster load speeds... its like the inbetween for ssd and regular hdd. kinda like a mssd+hdd in one package

I'm considering returning my DV7T for the Envy 17. For the most part I like the DV7T, but the Envy 17 offers some enticing "upgrades".

    Pro's
    1. Better build quality
    2. eyefinity support.

    Con's
    1. non removable battery
    2. glossy display (I prefer matte finishes)

    Questions
    1. How is the cooling compared to the DV7T? I've read that the parts of the Envy that get warm are away from the keyboard (under the display and the lower right where the HDD is located). The DV7T gets very warm while gaming. Do you guys think the Envy 17 will do a good job cooling the 7850M?

    2. I know the Envy 17 can house dual HDD's but does it come with the necessary bracket if I don't configure it with dual HDD's from HP? Will I need to buy the caddy separately?

Unless there are any drawbacks, I think I'll place the order tomorrow to ensure I get a reasonable delivery date.

    Thanks

I am typing this on a Dv7 Ivy Bridge with a 650m which I will be returning tomorrow and here is why.

-you could literally cook an egg on the WASD keys, one small fan cooling both the 650m and i7 is not good design nor good for the life expectency of the laptop
-the Envy 17 has two fans and has been reviewed to run a lot cooler than the Dv7
-poor poor build quality, wavy keyboards and keys that has some chipped paint, I wouldn't have noticed it if it weren't for the backlit keyboard

I could name more things that are wrong with the Dv7, they are just too many to list. The speakers and screen are really nice though.
