The one Envy I've seen for sale in China (granted, I haven't looked much in the last couple years) was a single Envy 13 selling for about $1000 more than its specs Stateside, and I'm pretty sure it was imported from the US.

Granted, you can get stuff like that on sites like Taobao for near-US prices, but it's really easy to get screwed buying electronics on Taobao.
I mean even US CTO sets are produced in China. Just like any other sets.

Yep, they are all produced in China - I recall tracking mine via FedEx as it originated out of Shanghai or somewhere.

Have to wait for IVY Bridge first, which is rumored to be around June.

Judging by the June release of the Sandy Bridge Envy 14 last year, Intel's June release date for the chipset is not even a guarantee that any Envy-Ivy Bridge refresh will happen immediately after.

That being said, if you need a laptop sooner rather than later, I'd just get one. If you wait for the Ivy Bridge, and it doesn't come out until August or September, you might be sad. But hey, if you've got that kind of patience, all the power to you!

If Ivy Bridge is really June, HP should add the 7750M to the current models while they wait.

like i already said to be expected, the radeon 7800 gpus are the price/performance stars of the new 28nm radeon 7000 series, and performance wise theyre noticeably stronger than the 6800 series.

since the 7850m/7870m will be based on the desktop 7850/7870 for the first time, i would say we can expect some great gpu performance inside the envy 17, if hp puts in a 7800m again after the 7690m xt flaw.

I agree, those 7870s are a GREAT new product. The price isn't bad at launch, but once these start going for $299, I might have to pick one up for the desktop as a GTX270 Replacement.
