I'm pretty sure it was 4 corners. Then again, false memories do occur for a reason, so I could be wrong!

But yeah, you certainly take what you can get. The Envy 14 even excluding Microsoft "accidentally" doing the equivalent of giving me double cashback was well-priced at just under $1,000. The touchpad was not half bad after the fixes. The ATI 5650 though ancient, is still usable for Diablo 3. Not complaining here!

But this old workhorse is due for a replacement soon. Still going to use it and pick up the Ivy Bridge Envy 15 when it releases. But I really do hope HP has fixed all the bugs associated with the orange/red display. Premium notebooks should get premium treatment. That should translate into HP putting its best foot forward and ensuring at the R&D and testing stages we don't encounter such problems.

i had the opportunity to stop by a bestbuy i was passing by and check out their laptop selection. This is what I got from it: the asus zenbooks are really really sexy. I really wished they put a 640m in the refresh and I would pick it up right away. The macs are also sexy but personally I dont think they are worth the price premium (esp. mba vs asus zenbook). They didnt have the envy for display

finally for the clickpad, I tried all the models that had it and none had 4 corner clicking even the mbp. you must have false memories
    Previous Laptop: Toshiba Satallite A215 | 15" 1280x800 | Athlon 64 x2 TK - 53 | 2 gb ram | Radeon x1200 | 1 minute battery life -_- <- crappy aint it?
Crappy Desktop: HP Pavillion | Phenom x4 9500 | 6 gb ram | Radeon HD 6770 <- not much better
    Current Laptop: HP Envy 15t-3200|i7-3720QM 2.6GHz 6MB L3 Cache (Turbo Boost to 3.6GHz)|8GB 1600 MHz RAM|750GB 7200RPM Hybrid HDD|1GB AMD 7750m|1920x1080 Radiance IPS Screen

I guess I'm wrong then, haha!!

Sigh. So many choices out there. Debating whether to spend more $$$ and get more bang for buck and build a desktop and upgrade it to Windows 8 now, or save $$$ and gaming performance, wait a year, and get a refreshed Envy 15 when it comes out with IB and ditch getting a desktop altogether. The current pricing regime including a Square Trade warranty will probably require that I tack on $100-150 more for a 3-year warranty.

    Option 1: Desktop.

That means I need to keep my Envy 14 as it is a bit longer, possibly 4 years.

    Option 2: Get a refreshed Envy 15

Envy 14 will only be a little over 2 years going on 3.

when do u think the envy 15 refresh will happen? I think the latest I will wait for my laptop decision is comptex or w.e in june. if its not announced then ill look at my other options and go from there. maybe sell that laptop and get envy in the future. its just I highly doubt I will have a 1500$ budget later

Depends. When did the last refresh happen? I'm looking at a late summer/early fall refresh. June/July/Aug time frame. I believe that's how it was for the Envy 14 and Envy 17 in 2010.

A little optimism doesn't hurt then. The only reason I can see HP facing another delay is if they face shortages of Ivy Bridge chips. But that aside, I don't expect Ivy Bridge to make a world of a difference. I'm more so hoping HP has fixed the screen bugs and looking forward to seeing GPU refresh.

Bah. I think I've made my decision. I'm giving up LAN gaming for good as all my friends have moved elsewhere. I guess I'm best off making a desktop for $700 or under and keeping my Envy for 1-2 more years. After that, I'll buy the future Envy 15 of 2014 only if they've killed the optical drive or there just aren't any competitors in this field. If they haven't, I'll probably go for whatever thin/light/powerful alternative that also has a high-res, high-gamut display.

The DV series is now featured on the HP front page as "the new black" and can be ordered with Nvidia graphics and third generation Intel Core iN processors.

If I remember correctly, while reading this thread, it said the more expensive notebooks as the Envy 15 I'm planning to get will get the refresh first?
