    Default *ENVY 17 Gaming Lounge*

I'm not sure if I am allowed to post owner lounges as I am not a mod, but let's consider this thread a conversation thread for ENVY gamers.

So, what games have you been playing lately and how's your cooling system working? Is the 6850M card enough for your needs? Have you overclocked? Does Skyrim make you take arrows in the knee?

I have a 2nd-gen ENVY 17 3D, and I had been playing a lot of Call of Duty games and just started Team Fortress 2, until my laptop was overheating too much (even with the cooling pad) so I sent it to be serviced. I hope everything works out, I should have it back the end of the week or next week.

(also post benchmarks here if you want )

I for one think this is a great idea.

I just ordered a gen3 Envy 17 - and have been reading the rants stating that it will struggle to handle tetris & facebook games due too its "crippled and outdated" GPU.

I had an ENVY 15 (older gen), and i was supprised how well it did with some of the latest games (Metro 2033, Skyrim, Battlefield 3, CODMW4, etc).

It also handled 1080p editing quite well.

If I am correct, the ENVY 17 3rd gen has the 7690M XT, one of the most current GPUs. (even if it's just a 6770M with a higher clock...)

I know, i am sure that it will suit my needs most nicely.

Although, the only game i am currently playing is World of Goo - And i don't think that will tax anything made in the last 5 years. Hah.

Anyone can start a thread like this as well as an owners lounge.

I have the 17 Envy 3D 2xxxx and I actually pick this laptop up to play Starwars: The Old Republic. I tried playing on another laptop and it struggled horribly, so i was hesitant to buy another laptop, but i when i found this one selling for half the price ( 2nd hand ofcourse ) i jumped on it and glad i did.

This laptop plays it great at the highest settings using the 6580 card. I get anywhere from 30-60 FPS and the temps reaching about 180-190 degrees. The laptop gets warm/hot, but the game is never affected....love it!

I just bought a laptop cooler, but honestly my 10 dollar fan from walmart works the best....i recommend that over anything else. i will be using both and drops the temp 10-20 degrees.

This is a great topic and plan to visit daily, thanks!

Oh god, I thought you meant Celsius... You know, just being European...

My graphics card used to reach 212 degrees and then the laptop hibernated. Seriously... >_>

I personally think that the 6850M card on the ENVY 17 3D just isn't enough for 3D gaming... I wanted to play games on high settings without having to turn down the settings to enjoy the 3D. But I guess it's fine for movies.

They should have put a better card on the 17 3D though. An 6870M or an 570M wouldn't be bad, especially the latter.

I am going to be ordering this laptop - the 2xxx, 3D version - in the coming days. I'll be mostly using this for gaming and entertainment. I don't really mind playing 3D games. How are the glasses, though? Also, besides Star Wars, I want to play Skyrim and Starcraft 2. Any experience with those games?
