This panel isn't that bad, but it's certainly not my cup of tea. It doesn't totally destroy the picture quality or anything like that, but it isn't true 8-bit and it doesn't have a very good colour gamut. It's fine for most purposes, but if you're hung up about screen quality, there are other options out there that will give you what you want. But I sure as heck ain't spending $4k+ on a DreamColor screen

I downloaded the My Display Utility and I have to say its way too basic. Basically it has 5 presets(default, movie, text, picture, and gaming) that change the brightness and colors up a bit. I tried all the presets and the closest thing to a red I got was Text mode which uses a COOL color temperature. You can also adjust color temperatures, contrast and brightness. There are no color controls from what I see.

Bwa haha. What a joke. When you install it, its just a re-badged ArcSoft TotalMedia Tuning Utility. Its not even their software.

On top of that, it obviously doesn't fix the issue, but only masks it. For example, if you select "Cool" mode, and do some tweaks, websites like Netflix and CNN do, in fact, look better with the reds. However, when you go into MS Paint and fill with 255 RED, its still pushes orange.

The only way for them to truly resolve this is replace the IPS panel, or, ditch the IPS panel completely and roll back to the TN panel in the 17, or the DV6 series. That, or get a better IPS panel, which would require a price markup.

Needless to say, epic fail HP. Epic fail.

what a shame .... disappointed with this if that is the case. i was hoping that the HP engineering can figure out more elegant way to solve this issue than this ...

...and on top of this disappointment, there is no way to "save" the settings so that it sticks permanently. So, when closing the lid and re-opening the lid, the settings reset. With a reboot, the settings reset. If you open a game and then exit, your settings reset.

So, your shafted with having to use the "color tuning utility" every single time you take your system out of standby, play a game, or even reboot (even though there is an option to "load at startup").

Alright... This Thread has made me anxious of getting an Envy 15.... is it still worth getting an envy 15? I mean... this seems like a sweet laptop, and I was wondering how minor (if it is) the problem was...
