Default Envy 15 2011 IPS screen color profile.

    All,

Here are some info on the IPS screen in the new Envy 15.
    Id from Device Manager: LGD0323

    From Sypder:
    Contrast ratio: 561:1
    Brightness:
    full bar 245 cm/d2
    2 empty bar 135 cm/d2
    3 empty bar 90 cm/d2
    1 bar 13 cm/d2
    Black Luminance: 0.14 cm/d2
Color Gamut: 60% (does not cover the RGB space, roughly 80% to 85% of the RGB box)
*For reference a 72% screen typically covers RGB, 95% almost covers all of adobe.

Attached is my color profile. Calibrated to 6500k, 2.2 gamma, 135 cm/d2.

    Here are some pictures.
Left side is a uncalibrated 95% gamut TN screen (its my gaming notebook, TN screens loose some viewing angle when calibrated), right side is the new Envy 15.
2nd one shows the power of IPS, 180 viewing angle, notice the envy is not washed out.
3nd one shows the color gamut coverage of the Envy 15 screen.

    Aww , I am right - is it Clevo-branded laptops P150HM?
That screen is the best they can put into such laptops and I see that IPS is much better!

Yes, its a 150hm on the left. Even through the 95% gamut screen looks better color wise (in person, not in the photo), the viewing angle on the IPS makes it much more enjoyable to use, no more tweaking the angle of the screen to make things look just right from top to bottom.
    Currently in use: T400, T410, T410s, x220, Dv6t A8, P150hm (6970m), Macbook Pro 15 2007, 2011, Macbook Pro 13 2009, Envy 15 2011.

Can someone share a quick tutorial of how to use the color profile you just posted?

Does this color profile make reds actually look red as opposed to orange like others were saying?

Are those photos post-calibration? Because the Envy's "red" is still very orange in those photos. =/

I really want the envy to have an awesome display, and I'm sure it does in many ways - 1080p, ips, good brightness/contrast, etc. But if it can't show red, then that seems like a dealbreaker.

Yes, its after calibration, there is not much that can be done about it, seems like its a technical limitation of the screen. Added a new attachment above to show its color gamut. Compared to low end screens its still alot better.
