yeah i have been seeing some issues but it looks like people are able to fix them...i was afriad of the QC issues so thats more than likely why i haven't pulled the trigger on it yet..battery life is good either way for me...as my current laptop only goes for an 1hour and a half tops..

Well I am now a proud new owner of an Envy 15 after returning my 8560w. Overall, I like it. The performance is just as good as the Elitebook was, even with a slower processor. I like the cooling layout on the Envy more than the Elitebook as the keyboard and palmrest does not get nearly as hot. I really like the screen. It is just as good as my LG IPS226V-PN desktop LCD. Reds seem to be just fine, even though it is supposed to be one of the ones that is affected. Maybe being a refurbished model they replaced it with the updated panel that is coming in the newer Envy 15's. The price was really good, $835 including tax for the specs in my sig except for the HDD (it came with a 500GB 7200RPM HDD instead of the SSD which I installed myself).

When did you place your order for your Envy?

    Ok a few questions:

How do I make the ATI GPU turned on at all times? Or just how do I go back between the dedicated vs integrated graphics? It seems like it does this automatically.

Next, how do I update drivers on an ATI GPU? I'm only familiar with Nvidia GPUs and that was great cause there are so many drivers always coming out.

And lastly, the track pad is driving me nuts. When I type, my palm hits the trackpad occasionally and the cursor bounces all over the place. How do I disable trackpad while typing??

It's auto switching. the only thing ihave found is that u can force the powersaving gpu by going into the power settings.

There are no drivers yet from amd that support it since it is still techinically new. the first one will be 12.7. You can install 12.7beta which does offer a bit of a performance boost. When you do, make sure ur updated with the hp ones and then install the 12.7beta while on a/c power on high performance

And lastly, the track pad is driving me nuts. When I type, my palm hits the trackpad occasionally and the cursor bounces all over the place. How do I disable trackpad while typing??press the orb and type in clickpad. its gonna be the first result. tweak the settings to ur liking. The feature you want ot look into is palm detection

    Thank you!

Except one problem. The clickpad settings do not have any kind of disable touchpad feature, I have searched up and down for this.

idk about that issue man but for the dvd issue, u got the dreaded eject problem haha. there is felt in the opning to stop dust from getting in. if its too thick or if its not alligned properly it would cause the disk to be stuck. a temp solution is use a fork and make some room for the cd. long term ur gonna have to cut some of it off with a knife to allow space
