Is it still worth buying the machine? How does the envy 15 stack up against the dv6t quad? and the xps 15 l502x ( if you guys have an idea) ? ( in terms os quality and build )

    Thanks
If you get the 1080p screen, youll have the red issue, almost guaranteed unless hp makes a change. Though the screen is much better than the standard 1368x768 panel.

Not sure about the xps 15 or the dv6 but the build on the envy is excellent. Its solid and no noticeable flex in the chassis. It seems like its normal to have some keyboard flex though.

Like i said earlier, i really like mine, if you can live with the orange reds the 1080p screen is just downright awesome, and the build is up their on the notebooks I have personally used.

As others have said, while the red/orange issue is annoying, the screen is still gorgeous and a downright pleasure to read text off of. This is really subjective - will the red/orange thing bother you enough to offsite the benefits of the screen? For me, while at first I thought no, they definitely do.

The rest of the system is solid. Super quiet (even when playing games), stays cool, very powerful, and it looks great. IMO, best full featured PC laptop available today, and with Intel delaying the next cpu release, there's not much to worry about in regards to immediate obsolescence (not much to worry about anyway, it's just a die shrink, slightly improved IPC, and a faster IGP). If I were buying a more portable system without discrete graphics, I would certainly want to wait for Intel to get their act in gear, however.

Hey guys could you post some of the temps you are getting, both idle/light use and gaming? I am around 37-40C on idle, 43-45C on light use, haven't gamed yet but have downloaded L4D, etc, but when I am on video chat via Skype, it has gotten as high as 91C, and usually hovers around 85-90C during a call, and this is when I have an HD chat going.

I have the 2.4ghz i7. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds!

Does anyone else have the volume issue?
My volume dips and raises randomly while listening to music.

Are you running the graphics switching in dynamic mode? I've noticed the system runs hotter in dynamic mode (plus dynamic switching doesn't work very well) than manual mode. I highly suggest going into your bios and switching over to manual mode and comparing.

I have not had that problem. Sounds like a hardware problem

I did, but I haven't noticed it since F.06 bios update..could be coincidental though. I'll keep an ear out.

Yeah it has always been in fixed mode.

Try these settings posted by another user in the other thread when others were experiencing a similar issue:

Hi just noticed your post..I know you what you are talking about. The sound levels keep going up and down with the beats audio. This is very clearly noticeable with head phones. Anyways..the point is..the reason it happens (at least in my case) is due to enabling sound enhancements under multiple places. This causes multiple sound control processes interfere with each other.
    To verify and fix this..
-first of all disable beats audio by pressing the beats button and uncheck the option under the listening experience.
-Now, from the volume icon in the taskbar --->Open volume mixer options.
-Select the output device (either headphones (or) speakers) by double clicking on the icon.
-Goto level enhancements. Check the option "Disable all enhancements.
-Goto Tone control tab. Click on reset to zero.
-Click ok all the way to exit the options window.
    -Now enable beats audio again.

    I hope it helps!
