that's the final nail on the coffin for the ENVY... i'm was waiting for it to arrive in Portugal but with all the problems its obvious that HP doesn't have a clue how to do things right...
this laptop had everything on paper to be a premium laptop, i'm gonna wait for the new ASUS N series, N46 or N56... at least ASUS does take quality control seriously...

I just checked into the N series. I hadn't heard of them before but it looks like that's what I'm going to be getting as long as they offer high res screens. One website said they would offer high res and the rest made no mention of screen resolution whatsoever.

Make sure you update the Synaptics TouchPad driver. Mine works great now.

HP's infared camera system so they can log your keystrokes....

jk...proximity sensors. you can toggle on or off.

I'll be headed the Asus direction as well. Just got my 4th HP E15 and will be sending it back. This one had an uneven trackpad (left side was lower than the right) and the trackpad was also raised on the backside. The unit also had dented speakers. These were for the Quickship models, so you may have more luck with the CTO.

It's only $17, so not bad. Yes, I am planning to put the SSD to the primary HDD slot, and move the current HD into the caddy. Actually somebody mentioned that it's very difficult to boot from the drive in caddy -- Envy is kind of stuck to boot from the drive in primary bay.

As to the FIXED graphics mode, I believe it should work ok with regular external monitors, but mine is a 2560x1600 DELL 3007FWP that requires dual-link DVI connection, and seems the Intel GPU is just not capable of driving that high resolution. I bet a regular DVI monitor shouldn't have problems.

By the way, when you say "dual monitor" you mean you have the laptop screen plus one external monitor? I found Evny 15 doesn't support two external monitors simultaneously -- I can only enable one of the two if both are connected (one through DP one through HDMI). Not a huge deal but hopefully I didn't do anything wrong.

I use it like this Monitor (via HDMI) + Laptop Screen. However, I think two external monitors should work as well. One using the HDMI port and the other using the DisplayPort. You just can't do 2 monitors + laptop screen all at once. Don't quote me on it though, I haven't tested using two external monitors with laptop screen off yet.

Laptop screen + monitor for extended displays works perfectly though.

you should install Reil's Envytouchpad, it changes everything !

That link goes back to a post from March 2011 mentioning that the Envy 14's Synaptics drivers were not updated. Isn't an update now unnecessary on the new Envy 15 since it shipped 11 months after the 3/2011 post (i.e. aren't the new Envy 15s shipped with correct/updated drivers).

I'm not a technologist and debating whether this Reil thing would help improve this crappy trackpad.

The ENVY 15 has an acceptable clickpad. This is coming from one who has used many different clickpads.

If you read through the thread, especially the more recent posts, you'll see that Reil's is more than a revelation - it's like a glorious epiphany!

Also, if you read through some of the earlier posts in this thread, you'll see some users saying to use it on the Envy 15.

I went from Envy 14 to Envy 15 and during my switch I brought Reil's with me.

Just use it. It doesn't make the trackpad perfect, but it definitely is not crappy anymore if you use Reil's. It goes from crappy to pretty good.

Has anyone been successful in returning their Envy 15 after the 21 day return policy had expired and received a full refund? If so, was it difficult and how did you go about it?
