I have bad circulation... what you're describing might actually be a feature and not a bug...

Really, after every person in your other thread disagreeing with you, you are then going to come in here and say this. If you have not notice you are in the minority of people who consider it “to hot”. To be honest I actually have not read of to many people who say it is “to hot” for them to like. The MAJORITY of owners, and a large portion of it at that, are absolutely fine with it.

    @OP

On that note, I decided on the 15 when I was considering the bunch. I seriously thought to myself “is the difference between a 15 and 14 going to matter at all when I am moving it around”. For me the answer was not a bit. Measure it the two out in front of you and you will notice it is not a big difference at all. With that in mind it was an easy choice. The added power I get from the 15 makes it much more worth it for me.

Also, I don't have an SSD and I am fine with the heat on the palm rest. It has not been an issue what so ever. It does get warmer than the left side, but never to the point where I am unhappy.

I don't actually have my Envy 15, but I decided to order it over the Envy 14 for a similar reason as chadsxe. More power, less expensive (when getting the best screen option for either, since neither are worth it with the 1366x768 screen). The only thing is that it would be great if the Envy 15 had better battery life, but I'm ok with what it has.

I just ordered a 14 yesterday. I considered the 15 for the extra GPU performance, but in the long run I wanted the smaller size. The 14.5" was already on the upper end of size for me, so even though the step up to the 15 wasn't that much.. it was still too much for me. I would have much preferred the Envy 13 if it had same specs as the 14.

Plus I like having an optical drive handy.

My envy15 arrived about 2 weeks ago, and I'm 95% satisfied with it. There are three things I don't like. Although the screen is beautiful, it is not completely uniformly lit (the bottom left corner is darker than the rest of the screen), and there's no edge to edge glass/plastic for the screen (this means dust and hair gets trapped in the plastic border). The third design issue is the connectivity ports. Everything is on the right side, and there are only 5 ports. I feel they could have no added more and spread them out. Besides those two points, the envy15 runs amazing, looks sexy, and feels solid. Some people have complained about palm rest heat, and while it gets warm (especially when charging the battery), it's never unreasonable (though I have yet to run modern games on the machine). I have both the HDD and SDD, and honestly I can't tell on which side each is stored. I also have no regret having no optical drive. turn a 8gb usb stick into a cd if you really need to install from discs. I was having the same debate as you, and decided on the 15 because build quality is about the same and for the same price you can get a hd screen, more hd space, and more graphic power.

P.S. the built-in speakers are on the softer side in terms of volume (but great quality). there's a fix for this however (read JJB's recent posts in the 15 gen 2 owner's thread).

Really! Ok no need to be defensive...I'm just giving him an opinion I wish someone had posted before I bought mine. I've owned many (about 10 in the last 4 years) laptops, and I've never been dissatisfied about the heat from one. The heat may be fine for you, but keep in mind many people posting about the envy 15 have an ssd which runs cooler... and there were people that agreed with me and said it's too hot. Another forum member returned for same exact reason.

Just got my Envy 15 and I've been doing a lot of multi tasking and a lot of file transferring + HD videos at the same time, just to see how fast the computer is and how much pressure it can handle. I do NOT have a SDD.

I can say that it does not get anywhere near "uncomfortably hot". In fact, I've owned other notebooks that got a lot hotter. I really don't feel it that bad, it's just warm as any laptop would get when under pressure. It's nowhere as bad as you're putting it out to be... Maybe you're just really sensible to hot things? I guess.

I've noticed the increase in heat in the area of the left palm rest when
    -GPU is overclocked
    -on High Performance power mode
    -on AC power
    hp envy 15 (Dec 2009) | i7-820QM 1.73 GHz (3.06 GHz turbo) | 16GB 1333 MHz RAM | 320GB Dual Intel X18-M G2 SSD in Raid0 (2 x 160GB) | 1GB AMD 5830m | 1920x1080 Display | 14.96" x 9.6" x 1.04" | 5.17 lbs

I should go for the envy 15, i'm an envy 15 (1st gen) owner.
5830M compared to the 5650M in the envy 14 is still rather high. Let's say 30% increase without oc, with oc it's more like 50%.

Battery isn't that good, but it's ok for me. But 2 hrs is normal.
If you want more performance go for the envy 15, if battery matters than envy 14 is the right deal.

But they come at almost the same price, and the envy 15 has much more advantages:
    better screen (full HD)
5830Mobility (expect 30% improvement at least)
    Overclock fun
    (Bigger display)
