Does one treat a hybrid like a regular hard drive, no worries about the read/write number or is it more like an SSD as far as care for the drive?

Yes pretty please? The F41 BIOS made the fan so loud I had to constantly bump the HDX to get it to stop..briefly.. I wanted to hack it with an ax after it going on and on like that for hours at a time. Went back to F40 and its a LOT better. Quieter. Man that was horrible. I can deal with the high pitched squeal when using headphones, since I hear whats playing on them instead of the whine, but the fan was unbearable. I imagine F35 may bring it back to the same quietness I originally had, or close to it at least.

I found something interesting that could aid in cooling should we ever figure out how to get a 280M GTX or 3700M to work with a BIOS mod. Copper memory heatspreaders. The kind used on desktop RAM. That will increase the thermal mass. And they are flat enough to fit inside.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about:

You can get them from here: Enzotech Forged Copper RAM Heatspreader (MA-DDRC1) - FrozenCPU.com

The trick will be adhering them to the copper pipes leading to the radiator. Use something like Arctic thermal epoxy.

Yeah, you can see I was in the planning stage...
Lol. Very nice find! Other than custom making a backlight solution (which I've been thinking about doing once I can find and afford an extra HDX or two to mess around with), and seeing what we can use in the express card/other card slots, the GPU upgrade seems to be the greatest challenge that will allow us to be able to keep up with the tech trends and progression with regards to system requirements of games and software..

Oh btw I forgot to mention this a while back but you may want to add the UJ 225 to the front page, which I believe is also IDE, as to being the other possible Blu Ray (burner/player) upgrades one can use in the HDX, beyond the UJ-220.

Yep, F41's a no go for me too. Back to F40 on both HDX's.

Thanks for the info about the UJ 225. Adding it to front page. Yep, it's a PATA/IDE drive like the others.

strange. i have had no problems yet. no extra fan noise, no higher temps..nothing.

Nothing comes up on the screen ever since i installed the new motherboard and cpu, i even get the same problems with the old cpu (i assume the old cpu is still functional), could the 3 beeps mean the gpu is trashed?

Should i try powering up the system with out the gpu installed? would that isolate the problem further?

    Thankyou all for your help.

    No, that won't help.

Try using one RAM stick at a time.

Also try this: Battery out, AC out. Hold down power button for 15 secs. Then connect just the AC (leave battery out) and try to boot.

I didn't see much of a difference other than in the level of annoyance.. I guess if I want to work even more on my patience, I can put the F41 BIOS back on lol.

No prob. Thanks for putting it up there for others to be able to take advantage of it.

Sorry, here I must answer now.
Basically, each drive is intended for use.

I got my SSD but optimized for low write load, but not according to the recommendations of others. Here a lot of nonsense is on the web.

Sure is a defragmentation of SSD unnecessary and disconnected with me. However, my index is still running. This is just an example.

I also buy a Ferrari and drive 30 km / h so it will last longer.
I also use my air conditioning, although I will consume more fuel. Everything in life is always a question of proportionality.

My friend has a DELL and only one HDD slot. He also uses the same Intel SSD as I do. For him the write load is enormous.
We have in 06/2010, two Intel SSD (same models) built into his company's server. There, the write load is even greater. No problems. Life calculated, and this exceeds the operating time.

Now to us. (HDX). We have two HDD bays.
This is a big advantage. But even with only one HDD slot, holds each SSD certainly longer than your motherboard.

The meaning of the Momentus XT for HDX I do not see.

    1. The controller decides what data to get the 4GB range. You have no influence. (there is no separate user area.). Five years ago, the XT would be the best.
    Today, there are pure SSD.

    2. In the second slot an XT makes no sense to me. (provided in the First SSD)
The high speed (7200 rpm), the XT, is the quietness of the SSD lost. XT also creates more vibration than a 5400rpm HDD.
This must each decide for themselves. I would not XT, I like it quiet.

    3. The prices for pure SSD fall further. The capacity will increase. We have only one life. One must use the life as long as you are in this world. I use it quickly and quietly.

    Now to your question.
    1. Yes like a normal HDD. (You can not at all different, even if you want)
    2. The lower the capacity of flash memory (XT4GB), the higher the write load of specific areas. (Controller-controlled)
    3. Disadvantage of SSD available, only limited advantage of SSD.

Does anyone have no SSD, the XT is great. Faster than regular HDD, and higher capacity than SSD. (but louder than 5400rpm and higher energy consumption than SSD)
