Re: *OFFICIAL: HP Envy 17 Owners Lounge!*
Eyefinity was definitely a selling point for me. I hate the fact that I can't use my current laptop on the dual monitors that I use for my desktop. I just hope that I will be able to use two external monitors and keep the laptop display going at the same time. This is still a total 3 monitors but I worry that it might not work for some reason. Anybody know about that? I don't play games so hopefully having different size monitors/laptop screen will not be an issue.

Re: *OFFICIAL: HP Envy 17 Owners Lounge!*
re:usb 3 - I needed that as I'm running my virtual environment off an external SSD (ocz enyo - neither my computer or this SSD is available yet, but both coming soon - I'm using another external solution for now but I'll just copy the files over when it comes in)
re: eyefinity - I just bought 3 23" monitors so I can take advantage of this, I've waited a long time for a laptop that would do this built in (without external display components/adapters)
To each his own though! Can't wait for tomorrow!

Re: *OFFICIAL: HP Envy 17 Owners Lounge!*
One of the only two people here who have the Envy 17 so far has faulty hardware, so probably figures he'll get inaccurate numbers, and the other one is MIA.
Ordered on the 19th. It still says "Estimated to ship on June 1, 2010". I was hoping for shipping to start at least one day earlier... no such luck.

Re: *OFFICIAL: HP Envy 17 Owners Lounge!*
I've had the experience of enjoying, at a recent LAN, an Eyefinity setup with 3x30" monitors. I got to play Battlefield Bad Company 2, Dirt 2, Metro 2033, Left for Dead 2 and World of Warcraft.
For those of you who haven't experienced Eyefinity, hold your judgment, because it is awesome. We were playing all of the games at 7680x1600, at a solid 40fps+. To have your entire scope of vision taken up with the game was a lot of fun and the same kind of experience could be setup with this laptop, not at that res, but 3x24" or 3x27"-28" 1080p lcd's would also provide quite a nice experience.
My laptop says it's shipping on June 2nd and I did the 2 day shipping, so I hope to have it by June 4th. I'll be doing like a few of you already said on this thread, I'll be using the laptop as a monitor and be pushing an external 30" and 28" lcd's. What I'm wondering, which I highly doubt, is if I'll be able to plug the 24" into it as well and run all the external as well as run the laptop screen. This is becoming my work machine as well as gaming so I'm really excited, also ordered the x25 ssd for boot (80gig - sitting here on my desk) and getting the momentus xt for storage.
I'll take some pics when I get it.
My friends and I that do a podcast @ PCPCgames.com are also putting together a lengthy video review of this laptop, the new ASUS G73JH, the Gateway gaming machine and some Dell. I'll provide a link once we get it up.Last edited by bigpaw; 31st May 2010 at 05:01 PM. Reason: addition

I like how this forum dies when it's a regular work day (or holiday like today).

Re: *OFFICIAL: HP Envy 17 Owners Lounge!*
Does the eyefinity works (for gaming) if i have two monitors, one 1920*1200 and another 1680*something (both 16:10 i think). Does eyefinity needs the two monitors to have the same resolution or aspect ratio?
Notebook: HP compaq presario, 1.8Ghz single core, 512mb ram, 64mb graphic card, 40Gb hard drive @4200rpm, 65seconds battery (chrono), and 2" high. It takes seriously 10 min to open IE but can play AoE3 on lan. Weird.
Soon: HP envy 17

Re: *OFFICIAL: HP Envy 17 Owners Lounge!*
I setup my eyeinfinity last night (only 2 monitors though) and it worked pretty well for games, except with 2 monitors it's kinda sucky due to the center of the action being right on the bezels >.> 3 monitors makes a lot more sense with the center of the action on the middle monitor. But I did get that sense of a huge display and can easily see how 3 monitors surrounding your almost total field of vision would make it very immersive. To use 3 monitors you have to have at least one monitor that has the mini DP port OR use an "active" adaptor. There is a list of supported adaptors on the ATI site.
When you have grouped your monitors for eyefinity, the laptop panel is disabled unfortunately. Would love to get around this but I don't think it's possible.
Having different sized monitors shouldn't be an issue as long as you run all monitors at the same resolution (which may mean you are not taking full advantage of a higher res monitor).
I did try to run 3dmark vantage, but it kept coming up with an error complaining about monitor resolution not supported, this was when I had no monitors plugged in at all. I will try the 06 version and see if that works.

Re: *OFFICIAL: HP Envy 17 Owners Lounge!*
You have to set all your monitors at the same resolution. So for example, you have a 1920x1080, a 1600x900, and a 1440x900 or something, then all the monitors will need to be set at 1440x900 or lower (1280x720). I'm guessing that with the 5850 mobile GPU, if I want to play FPS games with medium to high settings and using eyefinity, I'll have to set the display res pretty low.
